WHS Spring Musicals at GWMS -- Save the Dates!
Logistics for the Spring Musical
Our WHS Spring Musicals are right around the corner. The purpose of this letter is to provide you with details regarding our performances.
Like in “Pre- COVID” times, we will be having our performances at Glenn Westlake Middle School. (GWMS is located behind Manor Hill School, on Main St. south of Roosevelt Rd.) This allows us more space to safely enjoy the show. Listed below are some important details regarding our musicals:
Students are asked to wear school colors (red, white or black) or WHS Spirit Wear.
All families will enter GWMS at the Main Entrance, Door #1.
Doors will open at 6:40 p.m.
One adult will be asked to drop off your child, and then pick them up after the show at their assigned classroom.
Classroom teachers will supervise students during the time the students are not on stage.
Classroom assignments are as follows:
PLANNING FOR THE 2022-2023 SCHOOL YEAR:
Dear Hammerschmidt Parents,
Planning is underway for the next school year. If you are anticipating a change of schools for your child(ren) for next year, please let us know! The office will provide you with additional information.
If your child attends Hammerschmidt due to open enrollment, you have received an email from Jenn Nimke with the online form request for open enrollment. We are only accepting requests through this online form. Please complete prior to June 30. Open enrollment requests are approved annually depending on class size.
Class lists for the 2022-2023 school year will be developed in the coming weeks. A student’s placement for next year is based on several considerations including the following:
Heterogeneous groups of students in each class in terms of developmental levels, academic performance, gender, etc.
Student social/emotional
Special program needs such as Differentiation, Resource, EL
Personalities that may benefit from being together or separated
Behavioral needs
Matching student-learning styles with teaching styles
I rely heavily on the judgment of classroom teachers and support personnel in determining a child’s classroom assignment. The process involves many professionals, not just your child’s current teacher, with me having the final approval. A parent request for a particular teacher will not be given general consideration. Some parents have made specific requests in the past, so I am asking that you do not approach this year’s teacher with a request. If you have pertinent information that relates to peer relationships, please put it in writing and send it to me no later than Friday, May 13th.
Families will be notified by mail of their child’s classroom placement in August.
We continually make every effort to optimize the use of collaborative practices to best serve each of our Hammerschmidt students. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions at 630-827-4200 or ddanielski@sd44.org.
Respectfully,
David Danielski
Principal

Please email Liz Valdivia (evaldivia@sd44.org) in the WHS office, if your students will not be returning to Hammerschmidt School (or GWMS for current 5th graders) for the 2022-23 school year. Thank you!
Student Goal Reflection
WHS Spring Tree
There is a large tree painted on the wall in the LRC. For trimester 3, students had the opportunity to fill out a "flower" decorated with with goals they have met and goals we are still working towards. The picture below is in full bloom!
Stars & Spikes Participants,
First, thank you so much for registering and helping us bring our Stars & Spikes 5k event back to what it was prior to the pandemic. We are so excited for race day and to see our over 700 participants at Madison Elementary on May 7th. We wanted to share some information regarding the race prior to race week. We will be sending out a second email a few days before race day with more detailed information about race day.
Registration: Online registration closed this Friday, April 29 (if you have friends/family interested), but our race shirt/swag order has been submitted. Extra race shirts were ordered for late registrations, but those are only as supplies last. Anyone interested in registering after this Friday can register on race day on site beginning at 7:30.
Race Gear: All of our race gear will be distributed when it arrives next week to the student that you listed on your registration. Included in your bag will be your race shirt, race bib (with safety pins) and any swag that you ordered.
Race Parking: Parking will be extremely limited and tough to access on race day and we strongly suggest walking or biking to the event if possible. If you do choose to drive, we suggest you park south of Madison Street as our race course covers most of the streets North of Madison and enclose the Madison campus as well.
Race Day Schedule:
7:30 Race Day Registration Opens
9:00 Stars & Spikes: Back in Black 5k
10:00 1 Mile Run (start time approximate depending on the conclusion of the 5k race)
10:45 100 Yard Dash (children 5 and under)
11:00 Post-Race Party
We are counting down the days until we get to bring this amazing Madison & Hammerschmidt event back to life and we are so excited that you are going to be a part of it!
Sincerely,
Stars & Spikes Race Committee

More about Pack 42: Pack 42 is open to girls and boys in grades K-5. Many of the Pack 42 scouts are Hammerschmidt students. While Scouting provides opportunities for service, outdoor activities and developing leadership skills, this is done through many fun activities that allow Scouts to have fun with their buddies, learn something new or show off a skill they already have. Recent activities include an Egg Drop, Build Your Own Rocket, obstacle course, Movie Making, and more. There will be a separate, official membership recruitment event in the fall. If you have questions about Scouting in general, please contact Kristin Hartsaw at khartsaw@gmail.com or Molly Victor at mollyerinvictor@gmail.com.
This baseball game outing is an opportunity to expand the Scout connection with the Hammerschmidt community. We hope to see you there!
