NEWS FROM OUR SCHOOL COUNSELOR MRS. CALDWELL

Our mind is a powerful thing. Even with all of its amazingness, it is susceptible to external stimuli for better or worse. We have power when it comes to what influences how we think and feel by choosing what we listen to, watch, and read. This week be aware of what external factors are affecting you the most. Make a plan to fill your mind with uplifting content. You’ll feel better emotionally, and physically too. When our mind is filled with the right stuff, we make better choices and treat others well.

Message from our school Librarian:

Do you have a reader that doesn’t finish books? They may have started 5 books but they never seem to complete any? You may want to introduce them to a good mystery! Figuring out the who, what, where, why, when and how may be the motivation they need to keep going. Challenge them to try to solve the mystery before the book does. They may like to write down clues they find in the story along the way. Mysteries appeal to all ages. Detective LaRue or The Web Files are fun picture book mysteries. For early readers, try Nate the Great or the Haunted Library Series. First and Second Graders might enjoy the Magic Tree House series or Geronimo Stilton. Third and Fourth graders should try A-Z Mysteries or Bunnicula. From the Mixed-up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler, Malcom at Midnight or The Mysterious Benedict Society, will fit most fourth and fifth graders. Sixth Graders could try the Theodore Boone series, Harriet the Spy, The Westing Game, or A Series of Unfortunate Events. Hopefully the mystery of the unfinished book will finally be solved!
