Holy Rosary School
NEWSLETTER / TERM 3 / WEEK 4 / 9TH AUGUST 2022
Message from Miss Melanie
What a fabulous start to the term we have had at Holy Rosary, it has been great to see so many students regularly attending school each day.
Our Census Day raffle was well received and our two winners can now look forward to lunch on us some time this term. Everyday of attendance at school is important, however, the significance of census is that our school funding is calculated by our enrolment numbers and by who is at school on that particular day supports the enrolment (and that is why Jenna chases you up when your child is not at school and so persistently). Thank you to all our families for making sure your child attended on this important day for our school, or providing us with a written explanation as to why your child couldn't be with us on the day.
Our Staff have not been chasing up any students who are not wearing the correct uniform as there were little supplies down at Betta. I am happy to let you know that the stock has arrived and this means that we will now be expecting students to wear their correct school uniform. If your child needs new uniform items please head down to Betta and purchase. Faction points are awarded when children are in their correct uniform, or they may be able to win our Boab Cup if in correct uniform, so please purchase items as soon as possible so that your child doesn't miss out.
We had our first assembly on Friday of Week 3. An amazing performance by Year 2 who shared some of their learning about the continents of the world through their performance. Thank you to Miss Imogen and Miss Tara for preparing the class to perform. A thank you to all the families that attended, it was great to see so many extra faces joining our community for this event. Our Year 6 camp raffle was also drawn, details of the winners further down the newsletter, and the Missing Pieces research team provided a delicious afternoon tea for our community to share. Our next assembly will be on Friday 26th August (Week 6) with Year 3 performing an item, we look forward to seeing you there.
Next week is Wellness Week across the school. Students will be encouraged to look after themselves through getting enough sleep, eating well and spending time doing things that they enjoy outside of school. Staff are encouraged to look after their wellbeing, are encouraged to leave school early each day, participate in activities that they enjoy and not to hold meetings throughout the week. I ask that unless urgent, meetings should be made from Week 6.
We will be having our first Whole School Mass on Thursday 18th of August, all families are invited to join us, details will be shared next week. Don't forget to check out our Holy Rosary Facebook page to see what exciting things are happening in our school and check for events listed to add to your calendar.
Today's newsletter picture is of myself with my grandson John. I will share a different picture each newsletter and introduce you to some of the important things in my life.
God Bless.

Merit Awards
Congratulations to last week's Merit Award recipients. We look forward to seeing your families for the "Parent of the Week" morning tea this Wednesday.
Year 6 Camp Raffle
Wow! What an amazing effort from our school community. Big thanks to everyone who bought and sold raffle tickets! We raised a total of $3250 in this raffle, a monster effort.
Thanks to Bernadette from The Missing Piece Study for drawing our winners at Assembly last week. As you can imagine, we had a lot of investors in the raffle amongst our school community so we needed to select someone who hadn't bought a ticket (a tricky task). Thank you again to our amazing sponsors for making this raffle possible.
Congratulations to the Winners:
First prize, the signed, framed, Eagles Jumper went to Ricky Bremner
Second prize, the stunning piece of Mark Norval Art went to Lisa Graffin
Third prize, the $100 voucher for Derby Fuels went to Alison Scott
Our Year 6 parent community have also raised money for Camp through other raffles and events. BIG thanks to Kelly and Paul Betambeau, Alana Bremner, Carla Dunn, Brett Abelson and Rowena Riley for raising an additional $2667.70.
We also want to acknowledge Peter Brooking Junior for his outstanding effort cleaning up after the Derby Race Day. Peter donated $2000 towards the fundraising pool. We think you're a super star Peter!
Miss Jess
Woo hoo! It’s time to start fundraising! 🎉💰
Students have received their sponsorship booklet and can now create their online profile at www.australianfundraising.com.au.
Big prizes are up for grabs! Raise at least $10 and your child will receive a selection of awesome prizes. You can also share in $200k of extra prize credit, win a Razor Prize Pack, and become a Fundraising MonSTAR! ⭐
All money raised is supporting the purchase of decodable readers for our school!

Mowamjum Art Centre
As part of our Aboriginal studies, and in conjunction with National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day, the Kindy class visited Mowanjum Arts Centre. We were lucky enough to be shown around by Uncle Pete and Aunty Kirsty who talked to us about the songs, dances, art, history and stories of Mowanjum. We listened to stories about the Wandjina and Dunbi the Owl. Uncle Pete showed us how to play the Gunbuk and the Didgeridoo.
PRE-KINDY'S 'ON COUNRTY' EXPERIENCE
The focus of our ‘On Country’ experience was to investigate the native plants and trees as part of our theme this term. We went for a walk on the bush track near the Prison Boab tree and saw lots of birds, ants, wallaby holes and tracks. We also collected lots of natural items to use in the classroom.
The Pre-Kindy class would like to thank Miss Alis for taking us on our trip and Mr Tony from the Derby Police for coming along and cooking some damper for us to share.
