Galaxies Close to Our Own

Galaxy Profile

There are many galaxies and dwarf galaxies that are located close to our own, the Milky Way. The very closest galaxies are the Andromeda and the Triangulum Galaxy.

Andromeda:

The Andromeda galaxy is a spiral which is it's shape. It is located 2.5 million light years away from us and is predicted to collide with the Milky Way in 5 billion years creating a mega-galaxy. This galaxy has a diameter of 260,000 light years and a mass of about 400 billion solar masses.

Triangulum:

This galaxy much like the Andromeda galaxy is in the shape of a spiral. It is also 3 million light years away from Earth and is nicknamed the "Pinwheel Galaxy". It is also the third largest galaxy in our local group,(galaxies and dwarf galaxies near us). This galaxy is also able to see with the naked eye on a clear night,(if there was so much light pollution).
