Comets' Corner
Twain Update - Week of Sunday, February 28th
March is Reading Month: We're WILD About Reading at Mark Twain!
In celebration of March is Reading Month, Mark Twain has many exciting events planned as we spend a month focusing on the enjoyment and importance of reading! Starting this Monday March 1, 2021, all in-person students will be asked to set aside extra time each day to relax and read. Students will be tracking their weekly minutes and working together with other classes as they team up to read the most minutes.
(PLEASE NOTE: Virtual students will follow the March is Reading Month activities for their virtual teacher's home school.)
- At the end of each week, we will celebrate the winning team of classes.
- There is a large display in the central hallway tracking the minutes read each week by each team.
- There will be individual prizes each week for the top reader overall and plenty of group prizes, too!
- To help keep track of the minutes spent reading at home, students are being asked to fill out a reading log calendar. Each classroom teacher will advise on how to submit weekly calendars since some are being tracked in Seesaw and some on paper.
- The reading logs must be turned in each Friday: Friday March 5th, Friday March 12th, Friday March 19th, and Friday March 26th.
- We'll also be giving extra prizes to the class each week who has the most minutes read on MyOn!
The flyer below should have come home with your child on Friday. We also played the short video below for each class to help kick us off! If you have any questions, please feel free to contact your child’s teacher.
We're looking forward to a Wild Reading Rumpus and a TON of great reading from our students!
Student-Involved Conferences - March 11th
Our March Conferences are scheduled for Thursday, March 11th from 1:00-3:30 and from 4:30-7:30. These conferences are by request. Classroom teachers will be sending out requests to individual parents early this week if a conference is needed. If you do not receive a request but would like to meet with your child's teacher, you will have the opportunity to request one by reaching out to the teacher directly or by using the links provided in next week's edition of the Comets' Corner Newsletter.
Special Education providers will be reaching out to families individually to schedule conferences as needed. Specials teachers will also be available during designated conference times should you have questions or concerns. All conferences will be held via GoTo Meeting. Links will be shared prior to March 11th. Students are welcome to attend and participate in these conferences, but not required.
Face Mask Reminders
We ask that parents and other family members continue to model this behavior by wearing your face masks OVER YOUR MOUTH AND NOSE if you're walking up to the building during arrival or dismissal times. It is difficult to maintain adequate social distance during these congested times of the day, and masks keep us all safer.
Covid-19 Guidelines for International Travel
If you plan to travel internationally, please note that a 7-day quarantine AND a negative COVID test are needed before a student may return to school. (Or the student must quarantine for a full 10 days if you choose not to get them tested.) This is consistent with the CDC guidelines. Should you have any questions regarding travel and quarantines, please feel free to reach out.
Refer to the CDC Guidelines Regarding International Travel here.
Health, Safety, & COVID-19 Communication
We hope our Twain families are staying healthy. PLEASE continue to reach out to keep us updated about your family's health and notify the office if someone in your household tests positive for Covid-19 or if you find out that your child has been exposed to someone who has tested positive. This information allows us to enact our protocols that help mitigate the spread and keep our Twain community as healthy as possible.
Please note, if your child tests positive for Covid-19, we will need a copy of their test results or confirmation from their physician ASAP.
