The Lion's Roar
Lincoln Fundamental Elementary School - Home of the Lions
Thank you Lincoln Families!
Lincoln Families,
As you already know, this was my final year as principal of this amazing school. For the past seven years, I have had the absolute honor of leading Lincoln Fundamental and being a part of the BEST SCHOOL IN AMERICA. In reflecting back over the past seven years, I’m thrilled about all the positive changes we have made, including the very strong increases in academic achievement, the focus on strong character, the transition from year round to traditional, the name change to Lincoln Fundamental, and of course the beautiful facility upgrades. It has been quite an honor to be part of such an exciting time in the history of this great school.
While I’m proud of all these changes, I’m most proud of the amazing staff that work tirelessly for our students. This entire staff is filled with hard-working and remarkable people that care deeply about kids! This is a school full of leaders and learners who will continue to do whatever it takes to meet the needs of every one of our students. I’m so proud of the work that has been done and I am even more excited for its future.
The end of the school year marks celebration of all of the hard work we put in all year. I am disappointed like you, that the school year was cut short. I am especially disappointed that I wasn’t able to promote our 6th graders in person. You may not realize it, but our current 6th graders were my kindergartners my first year as principal. We came here together, and now we leave together. I wish you all the success in the world. I know you’ll do great things!
While I will no longer be your principal, you will still see me around. This is not goodbye. My youngest daughter will be entering 6th grade. I will be around to support her and the school as much as I can as a parent. I will still be part of our Dad’s Club and look forward to seeing you throughout the year at many school functions.
To my students, I leave you some final Words of Wisdom. My belief is that the key to being successful is to never limit your dreams and to work as hard as you can. Set goals, work hard, and NEVER give up. Late basketball start Kobe Bryant once said this,
“You can’t stop people from trying to limit your dreams, but you can stop it from becoming a reality. Your dreams are up to you. I encourage you to always be curious, always seek out things you love, and always work hard once you find it.”
Keep working hard, be resilient, be PERSISTENT! If you do those things there is NOTHING that will stop you from achieving your dreams.
With something to think about, this is Mr. Leedy…Make it a great day, or not, the choice is yours!
Thank you again for trusting me and allowing me to be part of your family’s educational journey. It has been my absolute honor. WE ARE LINCOLN, HEAR US ROAR!
Sincerely,
Brian Leedy

Distance Learning Update!
Good evening Lincoln Families,
I hope this message finds you and your family safe and healthy.
Our amazing teachers have been working hard preparing distance learning opportunities that will begin on Monday, April 13th. If you have not heard from your teacher by Monday, April 13th please email them individually or to me directly and we will work to connect you to your teacher. Please be sure to check your clutter or junk mail. Each teacher will have hours that they immediately reply to learning questions. Those hours will come directly to you from your child's teacher. Please understand that this is a new venture for all of us in education. We are building the plane while flying in the air. I do ask that you give us grace as we navigate this new normal. Once again, I ask that we do not compare class to class, teacher to teacher, as we roll out our distance learning platforms. If you have questions regarding distance learning please reach out to your teacher directly.
It is very important that you remain in contact with your child’s teacher. The students should be checking their school email each day. If you are having difficulties, please let us know.
I would like to answer a few of the frequently asked questions that I have received over the past few weeks:
Will the work be graded?
Corona-Norco Unified is adopting the following grading guidelines in response to the unique circumstances created by the COVID-19 Quarantine. There are many questions and concerns regarding grades because of the lasting impact grades have for students. The practices outlined below are in alignment with state guidance to hold students harmless as a result of school closures. The goal is for students to be educated to the best of their abilities during Distance Learning in a way that students and their grades are not penalized because of the unprecedented crisis the world is in.
Elementary Students in grades TK-6 current grades will be based on all school work completed up to Trimester 2. Each students Trimester 2 Report Card Grade will be the BASELINE grade and can only INCREASE from that point. All distance learning assignments completed up to the end of the school year will be able to increase a student's final grade and will not reduce it. In other words - all students now have the opportunity to raise their grades AND learn the most essential information teachers can convey through distance learning.
Meal Service: To-Go Meal service –Keep an eye out for District messaging in case there are changes. Monday’s only, starting April 6, 2020 from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.

Kinder and 6th Grade Promotion:
All school activities including promotions have been canceled. I understand that this news is hard for our students and families. This is very difficult for all of us as well. One of my great honors as principal is seeing off our amazing 6th graders and welcoming our kindergarten students and parents to the joys of full-day schooling. Our teachers miss out on saying "goodbye," or "Have a great summer" in person. I will reach out to you in the future on how we will proceed with certificates and the retrieval of personal items.

Thank you for your patience and understanding. As a father of three children in CNUSD at all three levels, I understand the stress and difficulty in managing all of this communication. We will get better each week. Where we start Monday is not where we will be three weeks from now. The Lincoln Staff is amazing, they are working harder than ever. Your children are gritty and resilient. They each have a Growth Mindset that tells them each day, "I can do hard things. I am resilient, I can learn anything." Be positive when speaking to your child about this new venture. Your child can and will grow through this process. We will all grow together. We all miss you and look forward to seeing you soon!
