8th Grade Celebration Video
A special shout out to Ella J., NJHS President, for producing this video!
OPS Summer Learning Opportunities
Students should take at least 30 minutes every day to read. Our Summer Reading Challenge is back, so make sure to log that time here: https://district.ops.org/ABOUTOPS/SummerReading.aspx#103181328-current-progress.
To keep students engaged through the summer, learning resources will continue to be available online. You can find that information here: https://libguides.ops.org/athome.
Woodmen of the World Awards
Woodmen of the World is one of the largest fraternal orders in America today. The student selected for the honor must have a proficiency in American History. The Woodmen of the World organization encourages the study of our country’s history by challenging students to make their best grades and demonstrate outstanding performance in American history. Recognizing this crucial learning for our country, they present annual awards in schools all across the nation to students selected by their teachers as most proficient in the study of American History.
Two of our 8th grade students were selected to receive this special award for Outstanding Proficiency in American History at Alice Buffett Magnet Middle School.
Congratulations Mercedes Renken (8A) and Audrey Ngamelue (8B) on your demonstrated excellence in American History. We wish you all the best in your future studies and using them to make thoughtful impacts for our great nation.
A Message to Bobcats - Epic Faculty Video

Physical Examination Information
All incoming 7th graders are required by the state of Nebraska to have a physical completed after March 1, 2020. This physical can also be used for student interested in participating in athletics for the 2020-2021 school year. The state of Nebraska also requires all incoming 7th graders to have a Tdap (Tetanus, Diphtheria and Pertussis *Whopping Cough* booster). If you have questions or concerns, please contact me at tara.boyer@ops.org.
Incoming 8th Grade students - The NSAA has released information to all schools to provide guidance on Pre-Participation Examinations for the 2020-2021 school year. To help with this concern, the NSAA Board has accepted the recommendations that any member school that has a current physical for their student-athlete on file for the 2019-2020 season will be able to use the same physical for the 2020-2021 school year. The ONLY exception is incoming 7th grade and incoming freshman students.

From Our Library
This week, we have an Office Form that students can fill out that will let our librarians know what books they'd like to see added to Sora OverDrive. Simply click on the link, and fill out the questions. If you'd like a personalized response for a book suggestion, add your student e-mail to the bottom of the form. Then just click submit, and we will start getting more books into our digital collection.
Here is the link: https://bit.ly/2VBjspA.
All students' books that were checked out prior to the closure of school have been renewed until the end of the school year. Students and parents should not worry about overdue books.
Students still have access to library materials through SORA (OverDrive). They can check out e-books or audiobooks for up to 2 weeks and read or listen to them online. To access SORA, go to our library's homepage https://buffett.ops.org/Programs/Library.aspx and click on the SORA icon. Your username is your student ID number; your password is your birthday in MMDDYY format (example: 041008).
Our library's homepage also has access to resources such as Britannica School and other databases which may help with class activities or general research. Please e-mail Mrs. Campbell at victoria.campbell@ops.org if you have questions, need help with passwords, or have concerns.
If you are a Twitter user, please follow @BuffettMagnet and @BuffettLibrary for updates.

Can you believe it.. the last week of learning is here!! Let's make this week just as productive as the previous 9 weeks. We appreciate all of the effort you have given this year and the effort. Your creativity and work ethic will only help you moving into 6th grade. Remember to be diligent with your time this week and put forth your best effort heading into the summer. We miss you!
For this last week continue to:
- Check your email for specific directions and messages from your teachers.
- Ask questions! and follow up with requests. Your teachers are here to help. If you don't understand the answer you receive, ask the question a different way.
- Take care of yourself and your family. Spend some time outside in this beautiful weather. Find something to do to help around the house-inside or outside. Spend time doing something you enjoy.
Enjoy this sweet video of our 5A students!

Dear 5B Buffett Students & Families,
Each week of this distance learning experience we have missed your smiling faces and your laughter. It just hasn’t been the same and we miss being in the classroom teaching you. We are so eager to be back in the classrooms next year with you.
We are down to our last week of school. As we end the school year here on May 15th, please be proud of your accomplishments this year, because we are very proud of you. We were able to see all of you bloom and grow into middle schoolers and we enjoyed getting to know you.
As the year comes to a close and it’s time to say good-bye, we want to say how much we have enjoyed watching you all learn and grow. Every day you changed, and we were able to see your unique personalities shine.
Enjoy the summer! Be safe and take the time to do fun things. We will look forward to hearing all about your adventures when we return to school.
Take care everyone!
We miss you!

The best ways to keep in the loop:
- Stay active and up-to-date with your emails. You can add Outlook to your phone and receive notifications.
- Most of your teachers use OneNote, so be sure to check for updates.
- Infinite Campus is updated every week. If you see a MISSING in the assignments, reach out to your teacher.
- Ask us questions. Things can be confusing through emails and OneNote, so feel free to just ask.
- Attend virtual classrooms, and you can ask your teacher anything.
- Most of all, we are here for you!
7A Students of Distinction
7B Students and Families,
We hope you and your family are doing well. We've heard from many of you, but if you haven't reached out to us, please email one of us to let us know how you're doing. We miss seeing your faces and talking to you. Thanks for being patient with us as we maneuver to remote teaching.
These are some reminders for you and your family:
- Please check your email and teams for assignments.
- Please check the Buffett webpage under the 7B homework tab for detailed directions on the weekly assignments.
- Please check your email several times a day for any updates from us.
- Shut down your computer every day to allow for updates.
- Another suggestion to help with updates is to go to start (bottom left hand corner), click on settings (it looks a little like a wheel), click on "update and security", and then click on "check online for updates from Microsoft Update."-this should be done if shutting down your laptop didn't work for syncing with your One Note or Teams.
- Teachers will use infinite campus to record it work is turned in or missing.

This is not how any one of us envisioned this year ending! To "see" you one more time, 8A is having a Teams meeting on Friday at 10 a.m. You also have a chance this week to create a FlipGrid video with your favorite memories. Check your emails from Mrs. Kortlever, Ms. Adams, and Mrs. Norris for more information.
Continue to reach out to your teachers this week if you have questions about your final assignments. Use the platform set up by your teacher, whether it is on Teams, OneNote or email.
We miss you all terribly and wish you nothing but the very best as you move onto high school. Know that you have a building full of teachers who will forever be your cheerleaders!
8A Students of Distinction
Hello Team 8B Seniors and Families:
It is so hard to believe that we are already in May. You have accomplished so much in your time at Buffett, so finish strong over the next few weeks.
We also want to give a shout out to Aletheia G and Miles D on being named 8B Students of Distinction. Their work has been consistently top-notch and they have both remained actively engaged throughout their online education.
Keep checking TEAMS and email for lessons and checkups in each of your classes. Continue taking advantage of resources such as Khan Academy and IXL.
We have loved hearing from you and hope you are keeping safe and busy. Please reach out to each other along with your teachers, counselors, and administrators with any questions, concerns, or thoughts you might have. Your strength and creativity has been amazing.
Take care.
