Week Of March 5th
Highlights from last week....
What a great week of learning! The kids came back and were ready to learn!
In ELA, we reviewed everything that we have learned so far. We also assessed our friend's on Unit 6. We are just cruising through this year!
In Math, we continued our unit on number bonds.
We enjoyed having our Community Readers come in to read to us. Thank you!
A peek at our learning this week....
This week our class will be reading stories about baby animals. Children will be using words to describe how the appearance and behavior of these animals are alike and different.
Here are some activities that you can do with your child to help reinforce the skills we will be practicing.
Word Workout
- Vocabulary: appearance, behavior Discuss the appearance and behavior of a kitten, as well as other baby animals.
- My Words to Know
High-Frequency Words: for, have Write sentences about baby animals using the words for and have. Read the sentences together. Ask your child to underline the words for and have.
Category Words: animal parts Play “Guess the Animal.” Give clues about an animal’s appearance. Encourage your child to guess the name of the animal and act out how it moves.
Phonics: u Write the word bug on paper and sound out the word together. Then have your child think of other short u words that rhyme with bug, such as dug, jug, hug, and mug.
In Math, we will be working on number bonds. This is a concept that we use to break numbers apart and put them together.
Half Day on Wednesday
Leprechaun Trap
Leprechaun Trap
In the spirit of St. Patrick’s Day, we are going to attempt to trap a leprechaun in our classroom. We are asking you to work with your child to design a trap for Friday, March 16th. First test your trap the evening before to see how well it works, then have your child bring the trap to school on Friday and we will try to trap him over the weekend. Of course, if you trap the leprechaun at home, please have your child bring it to school
Thank you and Have FUN!
A note from Ms. Berube
Since St. Patrick's day is coming up you're all welcomed to make leprechaun traps at home and bring them in by Friday, March 16th, so we can set them up in the classroom to hopefully catch a leprechaun over the weekend! This will be a lot of fun!
Continue practicing at home and thank you for all you do!
Have a great week!
A note from Mrs. Maillet
