Week Of March 5th

Highlights from last week....

What a great week of learning! The kids came back and were ready to learn!

In ELA, we reviewed everything that we have learned so far. We also assessed our friend's on Unit 6. We are just cruising through this year!

In Math, we continued our unit on number bonds.

We enjoyed having our Community Readers come in to read to us. Thank you!

A peek at our learning this week....

This week our class will be reading stories about baby animals. Children will be using words to describe how the appearance and behavior of these animals are alike and different.

Here are some activities that you can do with your child to help reinforce the skills we will be practicing.

Word Workout

  • Vocabulary: appearance, behavior Discuss the appearance and behavior of a kitten, as well as other baby animals.
  • My Words to Know

High-Frequency Words: for, have Write sentences about baby animals using the words for and have. Read the sentences together. Ask your child to underline the words for and have.

Category Words: animal parts Play “Guess the Animal.” Give clues about an animal’s appearance. Encourage your child to guess the name of the animal and act out how it moves.

Phonics: u Write the word bug on paper and sound out the word together. Then have your child think of other short u words that rhyme with bug, such as dug, jug, hug, and mug.

In Math, we will be working on number bonds. This is a concept that we use to break numbers apart and put them together.

Half Day on Wednesday

We will have a half day of school on Wednesday.

Leprechaun Trap

Leprechaun Trap

In the spirit of St. Patrick’s Day, we are going to attempt to trap a leprechaun in our classroom. We are asking you to work with your child to design a trap for Friday, March 16th. First test your trap the evening before to see how well it works, then have your child bring the trap to school on Friday and we will try to trap him over the weekend. Of course, if you trap the leprechaun at home, please have your child bring it to school

Thank you and Have FUN!

A note from Ms. Berube

What a great week of learning we had! The children have been working hard and rocking it! We were so lucky to have Athol police chief Craig Lundgren come into our classroom and read "Maybe something beautiful" to us. Everyone was so polite and respectful to our guest!

Since St. Patrick's day is coming up you're all welcomed to make leprechaun traps at home and bring them in by Friday, March 16th, so we can set them up in the classroom to hopefully catch a leprechaun over the weekend! This will be a lot of fun!

Continue practicing at home and thank you for all you do!

Have a great week!

A note from Mrs. Maillet

Wow! I can't believe how much your children have learned this year! We finished our assessment in ELA and what I have noticed is that we really need to focus on key details in our reading. Please continue to read each night and ask specific questions related to the picture and text while you are reading. In math, we need some work on counting and number writing. Please practice these skills at home. I have adjusted our centers to help with this, however, a little help from home would be AWESOME! Thank you for all that you do!!

Thank you to our community reader, we loved having you in our class!

A note from Mrs. Webb

We had such a great week! Your children have grown so much! Their skills are developing as they continue to practice, practice, practice! We ended our week with our fabulous community reader! Olivia Skinner from the Athol Public Library came in to read us the story "Maybe Something Beautiful". The children really enjoyed having her read to us and loved creating their own mural to hang in the classroom. They were extremely polite and welcoming!

We will be trying to catch a leprechaun in our classroom. Please send in your child's trap for Friday, March 16th. We will set them before we leave for the day and see if you caught that mischievous leprechaun when we return to school on Monday, March 18th!

The March Calendar went home last week. I am asking you to update it with a very important event. ASHTON'S BIRTHDAY IS MARCH 18TH. I apologize for omitting this on the calendar!

Scholastic Book Orders are due on Friday.

There is a half day of school Wednesday.

Thank you so much for the continued donations to our classroom. We have been vigilant about washing our hands and keeping those germs to a minimum!

Have a great week!

A note from Mrs. Marcoux

We had a busy week. Our community reading volunteer was Miss Robin from the Athol Public Library. We had a great time listening to her read "Maybe Something Beautiful" and designed our own houses. The children had a lot of fun with this activity. We made it into a big collage and hung it in the classroom.

We will be trying to catch a leprechaun in our classroom. Please send in your child's trap for Friday, March 16th. We will set them up before we leave for the day to see if we can catch one over the weekend. We will check the traps when we come back to school on Monday, March 18th. Feel free to send them in early, I will put them in a safe area.

We have a half day on Wednesday.

Thank you for the Clorox wipes that were sent in last week! There are still stomach bugs going around and we are doing our best to keep the room as germ free as possible.

Enjoy your week!

A note from Mrs. Goldthwaite

You have some amazing children! They were ready to learn this week. Our assessment for Wonders unit 6 has shown that they are making great growth in the basic skills.

I sent home two poems that can be read for your nightly reading. These poems have our sight words ; was and she.

Thank you for all your support with our math home work pages. It is a great help to have them practice those skills.

We will try to catch the leprechaun. This is your family activity for the month of March. This will be so exciting if you can catch that Leprechaun. We have almost gotten him in the past years. Lets get him!

Thank you so much to Kellum's family for the klorox wipes and tissues.

I will send out March scholastic book orders next week. You can always place an on line order any time.

PTO is on Wednesday, March 6th. It takes place in parent room at 6 pm. Hope to see you then.

Thank you for all your support.
