End of Year Reflections
It is hard to believe that the school year is nearly over. This has been a very busy and productive year with many accomplishments to celebrate.
- All library "innovation centers" implemented makerspaces in their libraries. It was great to see these makerspaces in action throughout the year.
- To support their makerspaces, many of our iibraries successfully secured money through either PLAN's Innovation Grants or the Escambia Foundation. From the PLAN grants alone, twelve library innovation centers received funding totaling over $28,000.
- We held the 5th Annual Battle of the Books competition with 400 students in grades 3-12 on May 14 at Booker T. Washington. This was the highest participation we have had; and, the day wouid not have been a success without the help of all the volunteers, coaches, and students! In particular, we are very appreciative of Dolores Underwood's dedication to this competition.
- As of May 13, the 2015-2016 total circulations for all our school libraries is 1,507,397!

- Our preplanning inservice for the 2016-2017 school year will be held on August 8 from 8:00 to 11:30 (location TBD). We are excited to announce that renowned school librarian, Shannon McClintock Miller, will be the guest speaker. To learn more about Shannon, visit her blog, The Library Voice.
Retirements
This year, two fabulous school librarians are retiring: Annette Casey (Pleasant Grove Elementary) and Terry Burrill (McArthur Elementary). We want to recognize them for their many years of exemplary service and their advancement of the profession throughout their careers.
