Woodland Families,


Thank you so much for completing the Return to Learn Commitment Survey. I have enjoyed sharing information regarding what Woodland face-to-face instruction will look like. Many families attended the Elementary Town Hall and many others have reached out personally. Below you will find some additional specifics pertaining to Woodland. As we prepare for the transition, some of the details may change on number of students returning, input from the health department, and/or unforeseen glitches. I promise to share changes with you if they arise.


Woodland Return to Face-to-Face and Remote Instruction

Schedule--Drop off begins at 8:27am-we will have a soft start to allow for parent drop off. Instruction will begin at 8:37am. Dismissal will be staggered like it always has been to maintain distancing. We also will be using our drop off lane for parent pick up!! More info will come soon.


Specials--Art, Music, and PE will be taught to both in-person and remote classes.


Remote Instruction Schedule-- will be similar to the In-Person schedule. Classes will be held from 8:32am-3:39pm. The last period will be office hours to call in and receive extra help.


Lunch/Recess--We will be going out for recess and mask breaks (weather permitting). Lunch will be in the cafeteria and gym so we can spread out since we won't be wearing masks when we eat. Lunch and recess times will be shared later. We will be building in additional time to clean between lunches. Hot lunches will be delivered to student seats so there will be no need to stand in line.


Seating in class--We will have some classes with desks and some with round or trapezoid tables. Spacing will be 3-5 feet depending on the number of students in the class.


Visitors--Unfortunately, we will not be able to have volunteers or visitors this year. Parents that are dropping students off late or picking them up early will be using our vestibule.

Employment Opportunities

Lunch Recess Aides Needed

As Avondale School District plans for the return to in-person instruction for our students and staff, there are staffing requirements that must be met to assist with providing a safe environment for all. Avondale School District has many positions available for Lunch Recess Aides.

Sign Up For Parent Teacher Conferences Here

Parent-Teacher Conferences will be scheduled using Sign-Up Genius again this year. Conferences are on Monday, November 2nd and Thursday, November 5th from 4:30pm-8pm. Conferences last 15 minutes.

Woodland Read-A-Thon

Please join the fun with the Woodland Elementary PTO’s Read-a-thon!


We kick off this Fundraising event this coming Monday, October 19th!


How Your Support Will Help Us:

We would like to concentrate our fundraising efforts this year towards updating the pod spaces for a welcoming gathering space once social distancing ends. We plan to purchase books for the classrooms to help support the reading and writing curriculum with monies raised. We will also use funds to support our school-wide positive behavior intervention and support program, and to put on our Community Events.


10% of funds raised will be allocated back to your child's classroom teacher for the purchase of books!


Help us make this the easiest and most successful fundraiser ever.

AMS Haunted Cruise

Save the date for the Avondale Middle School Haunted Cruise on Friday, October 30th. The parking lot of AMS will be decorated with tents and car trunks for children ages Preschool through 8th grade to dress up in their favorite costume and trick-or-treat from their cars! Tickets cost $10 per vehicle and will be available (and required) to purchase online. There will also be a Basket Raffle. The event runs from 6:30pm-8:30pm. Families must remain in their car as they drive the students through the trick or treating area. The tents and trunks will be socially distancing with masks on and will deliver candy touchless to the children in the car. Cash only (exact change) for the basket raffle are $1.00 for 1 ticket, $5.00 for 7 tickets or $10.00 for 15 tickets. Winners will be announced at 9:00pm through Zoom (link will be provided the night of). Please bring a bag to collect all of your goodies! RAIN OR SHINE! No refunds provided. Positivity Project (P2) #Other People Mindset

This week, we focused on Being Present & Giving Others My Attention.


This means that when I’m with other people, I’m present and give them my full attention. A focus on being present is so important today due to the increasing number of distractions vying for our time and attention. Phone calls, text messages, emails, and social media seem to pull us away from the present moment and what’s most important - our relationships with other people! It’s vitally important that we pick our heads up from our cell phones and truly listen to other people when they’re talking. A positive culture is built with positive relationships and we can’t build positive relationships without attention. So, the answer is clear: we need to pay attention to people in our lives!


Next week, we will focus on Forgiveness.

Gift of Giving Holiday Drive

It is that time of the year again for our annual Gift of Giving Holiday Drive to support Avondale families in need. The Holiday Drive's goal is to provide basic needs (winter items, clothing, shoes, and food) for the Avondale families who could benefit from the service. Families in need should fill out the Holiday Drive application (https://forms.gle/86C1FGnPeV88LzwEA) by today, Friday, October 16th.

Blessings In A Backpack Program

Avondale families wishing to enroll their student(s) in our Blessings in a Backpack Program, please fill out the form at this link: https://forms.gle/PdsACS8KPo7tWKtf9.


Blessings in a Backpack provides simple meals at NO COST each week during the school year for families who need assistance. While Avondale Schools is conducting remote learning, meals will be disbursed in conjunction with the Chartwells Food Service Breakfast and Lunch distributions. (Watch for details about distribution dates, times, and locations). Sign up today!
