A little about Ms. Kristin:
Dear ArtSpace Students, Families and Community Members,
Greetings! I want to take a moment to introduce myself as the School Counselor here at ArtSpace this year while Ms. Adina is on leave.
A little about me. I have been a School Counselor for almost 10 years with students ranging in ages from 4 through 17. I am a proud graduate of Appalachian State University and the University of Delaware. My family keeps my days outside of school full of love, laughter, and a little chaos. My husband and I spend most of our energy outside of work on our biggest adventure, raising our little girl and little boy. We learn something new together everyday from our precious little ones.
As the School Counselor, I strive to offer support to our students in order to help them feel and be successful. My goals this year are getting to know our students and families and developing the counseling program in order to support our students in their academic, personal/social, emotional and career development. To meet the needs of our students, I offer a variety of school-wide programs, classroom lessons, small group counseling, and as needed, short-term individual counseling. In addition to these services, I also help coordinate referrals for our school based therapists and for community agencies that meet the needs of families.
I strongly believe that together we can make a positive difference. Please feel free to contact me at the school or via email if I can be of assistance.
I’m looking forward to a meaningful school year full of laughter, learning, student leadership and adventure.
Thank you for sharing your children with us each day!
Ms. Kristin

School Based Therapy Referrals
Classroom Lessons!
Here is a sampling of some of our class lessons this year:
In Ms. Claire's 1st grade, we explored the book, "Lying Up a Storm" and created drawings based on the feeling we have inside when we are honest and truthful.
Our 2nd graders in Ms. Ali's class created "Friendship Pies" full of the ingredients of friendship after we read and discussed the book "Enemy Pie".
In 3rd grade classes, we read the beautiful book, "The Invisible Boy" and created secret messages that we could say or think of when we notice a classmate that may need a friend.
In 4th grade, we are focusing on the qualities in a strong friendship. We are practicing listening to each other and finding connections with our classmates. We will have classroom visits from our 7/8 Diffusers team to share some of their problem solving skills as well.
As the year moves along, I hope to visit with each class K-6 for some time to build our relationships and school community. Stay tuned for more!
