A Message from the Principal
Dear Holy Family Catholic School Community,
I hope that you all had a safe, fun, and restful Labor Day!
Over these first weeks of school the homeroom teachers have been working with their students in the creation of Discipleship Agreements to support social emotional learning and the positive culture of the classroom. Some schools call these types of agreements Social Contracts or Respect Agreements. We decided to name our contracts Discipleship Agreements because it is more in alignment with our HFCS mission statement:
Teaching the Way of Jesus Christ,
Holy Family Catholic School empowers students to become
joyful disciples, lifelong learners, and compassionate leaders.
First Graders showing Ms. Walters their Discipleship Agreement.
The Discipleship Agreement is created by the students through a process that is facilitated by the teacher and involves student input on four important questions. The students are also asked to incorporate specific virtues into their Discipleship Agreements to further strengthen our virtue program. The four questions are:
· How do you want to be treated by the teacher?
· How do you want to be treated by each other?
· How do you think the teacher wants to be treated by you?
· How do we want to treat each other when there is conflict?
After the students and teacher have settled on their Discipleship Agreement it becomes the guiding principle in maintaining positive relationships and respectful behavior in the classroom. This agreement is revisited often and becomes a virtuous touchstone and guidepost for the classroom.
Please join us next week for Monday Morning Prayer when some of our classes will be sharing their Discipleship Agreements with the school community.
The yearbooks have (finally) arrived!!! Thank you to Sara Heitt for doing a great job on the yearbook! My first thought when looking through the book was, “Look how happy everyone is!” My second thought was a prayer of gratitude; what a blessing it is to be here in this amazing community surrounded by such caring people.
God bless,
Ann Walters
Principal
