Mental Health and Mindfulness Tips

Mental wellness pertains to the social, emotional, physical, and spiritual aspects of your life and how they all come together for an overall state of well-being. Similar to physical health, mental wellness takes effort. Here are some activities to help you attend to your mental wellness.

  • Mindfulness is the ability to be consciously aware in the present moment. When you are mindful it allows you to regulate your emotions and be present in the moment. There are several apps to help with this. (See one below)
  • Be kind to yourself. Self-compassion is about being kind to yourself. Self-compassion can increase motivation, boost happiness, and foster resilience.
  • Practice gratitude. This has been shown to reduce stress and maintain resilience. Practice writing down three to five things you are grateful for in a journal daily or weekly.
  • Move your body. Taking care of your body boosts your well-being pretty quickly. Whether it's walking for ten minutes or working out or an hour, adding this into your daily or weekly routine will help improve your mental well-being.
  • Find time to do things you enjoy. If you used to love cooking, but got in the rut of not making meals, find some new recipes to try. Ifyou have been wanting to take a pottery class, book a class.

Letter From Dr. Briggs Regarding Calamity Days

Dear PLSD family,

As the weather in Ohio continues to get colder, I would like to share how the district will handle calamity days if in-person classes need to be canceled due to inclement weather. Calamity days this winter will be good old-fashioned snow days. Students will not be expected to learn virtually.

We strive to make the decision to delay or close by 5:30 a.m. or earlier so that we can notify radio and TV stations, post to the district website, and send electronic notices to emergency announcement subscribers.

Unusual weather conditions may force us to make the decision after this time. For that reason, parents and students are advised to stay tuned to major television and radio stations, as well as our website and e-communications notices, for updates.

Once a decision is made to delay or cancel, the information will be shared with parents and the media as quickly as possible. You can read more about calamity day procedures on our website at https://oh50010917.schoolwires.net/Page/98.

Please check the Infinite Campus portal to ensure that your contact information is accurate so that you will receive closing/delay notifications in a timely manner, and that you will receive the messages via your preferred method(s) of delivery (text, phone call, email, etc.).

Thank you! The first official day of winter is Dec. 21st!

Dr. Chris Briggs, Superintendent

APEX Course Tips

*If you score below 60% on any quizzes, you will need to retake those before taking the test.

(Please speak with your content teacher on specific Coursework Details)

Grades are calculated as 80% tests and 20% quizzes and study guides. Therefore, if you do not pass your tests, you will not pass the class. Please keep in mind that the grade you see on APEX may not always be accurate. Students should reach out to content teacher for updated grades.

Parents/Guardians

In order to see what assignments your student has completed, go to the home screen in APEX and click on the percent grade next to the course name. This will show you a list of all assignments, and the date completed. The assignments that say custom are teacher created materials. You should ask your student to show you daily/weekly.

Graduation Plans

Each student HAS a graduation plan that is created when they are enrolled at PAS. These plans are shared with students and are shared with parents/guardians. Please contact our school counselor Michelle Hurd for graduation plan details. (michelle_hurd@plsd.us)
