One School One Book 2024
Happy New Year!
It can be difficult to get back into the routine and the "school groove" after 10 days off...However, our excitement for learning was reignited by our annual One School One Book title reveal!!! Students were greeted with mystery paw prints lining our hallways which served as the first clue about what this year's title might be!
During our reveal assembly, students played a variety of games like, "good boy, play fetch, toy shoot, frisbee balance and bone stacking" which revealed some of the title's letters and gave us additional clues about who the characters might be.
At the end of the assembly, our book's characters were revealed when 3 dogs, who work or are training for The Seeing Eye, entered the gymnasium! Students pieced the three words and clues together to determine our 2024 title, Hotel for Dogs written by Lois Duncan.
Thanks to the Westmoreland PTO, each family received a book to read along with us. Please follow the reading calendar so our students can enjoy this story together and participate in our One School One Book schoolwide experience. After our reading this year, families are able to keep the book!
Your child is not expected to read this book independently, as it may not coincide with his/her reading level. Grownups should read the chapters aloud to their child(ren). Reading aloud at home is valuable because it better prepares your child to be an effective reader. It is also a fun, worthwhile family activity.
In school, your child will be invited to answer daily trivia questions to encourage and reward attentive listening.
I would like to personally thank the Westmoreland PTO for continuing to sponsor this program and allowing this wonderful reading journey to take place. They have provided books for this wonderful school wide activity for the past 13 years since this project's inception.
This unique opportunity would not be possible without you!
We look forward to talking about this great story with both you and your child during the month. “When a whole school reads a book, there is a lot to talk about.” With your help, we are truly building a community of readers at Westmoreland School.
Happy READING!!!
Kindergarten Registration for September 2024
If you have a child who will be 5 years old by October 1st, it's time to register them for kindergarten! When families register early, it helps us tremendously with planning as we have a better idea of how many students to expect/accommodate.
PTO PIZZA SALE (for half days January-June)
If you ordered pizza for your child for the first half of the school year, those orders have already been expended. There is a second order form for the half days from January through June.

REACH Updates
Kindergarten PETS Push-In
In this Type 1 REACH Program, the Kindergarten students were introduced to brainstorming as a divergent thinking strategy. They listened to the read aloud, 10 Black Dots, by Donald Cruz and looked at various configurations of dots. Then, they brainstormed different ways to use all of the dots together to create a picture. The students showcased their ability to think divergently when drawing their own ideas!
