DRAKE OPEN HOUSE Makes Changes for 2020!
Drake’s OPEN HOUSE will be on January 23 from 6:30-8:00 p.m. This year’s OPEN HOUSE is working to serve three purposes:
Drop-in time to talk with teachers about students and classes.
Time for our incoming 9th-grade families to explore the school, our elective program, and other classes at Drake.
Provide workshops on courses current parents might want to learn more about BEFORE students sign-up in February, such as AP courses and the elective programs.
To meet these three purposes, we are offering two “ways” to experience OPEN HOUSE. Our teachers will be available in classrooms for parents to drop-in and ask questions or chat about current classes. We are also offering a menu of workshops offered over 10-minute slots during the evening on different courses for the 2020-21 school year. This menu of workshops will be available early next week for parents to plan their visit on Thursday, January 23rd.
Our hope is parents will have the opportunity to get their questions answered and chat with teachers about this CURRENT year’s courses and learn about possible course offerings for NEXT YEAR. We also welcome our newest Drake students, the Class of 2024, to come and explore our programs.
Keep your eyes open for an email from Jolie Jacobs early next week with a schedule of events!
If you have questions please email Liz Seabury, Principal at lseabury@tamdistrict.org

Drake on the Same Page- A Community Reads on Race, Racism and the Ross Valley
The Drake Parent Racial Equity Team is organizing a community reads event for our Ross Valley community. Over the years Drake has held "Drake on the Same Page" parent/community education evenings and we are excited to bring this Drake on the Same Page event to the Ross Valley with a focus on race, racism and community awareness. This event will include a book read for the whole community and two evening workshops to support the reading.
Drake on the Same Page books will be:
How to be an Anti-Racist by Ibram X. Kendi
Waking Up White by Debby Irving
We encourage people to read either of these or both if you are an avid reader! We have reached out to the local libraries and bookstores to let them know you all may come looking.
The Community Events we are offering to support the reads are both informative and important and all community members are welcome (even if you are not reading the books).
Courageous Conversations: March 4 @ 10:00 am or 6:00 pm. Join other parents and community members for a workshop with Pacific Education Group’s Dr. Lori Watson. Learn an award-winning protocol for effectively engaging, sustaining and deepening interracial dialogue to address persistent racial disparities intentionally, explicitly, and comprehensively.
Community Conversation about Race: April 2 @ 6:00 pm. This culminating event will allow for student voice, food and a community conversation about race. We welcome Drake High’s Students Organized for Anti-Racism (SOAR) to share with the Ross Valley community insights into their work at Drake. We will then share a meal and hold a community conversation about race, racism in the Ross Valley and our understandings from the book reads and workshops. We invite the community to attend, even if you have not been able to read the books.
Please look at our website for more information on both books and our events. If you have questions, do not hesitate to contact Assistant Principal, Nate Severin for more information!
Congratulations Graduates- Information for our Class of 2020
Congratulations! Your Senior student has entered their final semester of high school! There will be many events ahead and we hope to help you stay organized. We are here to help and want to ease any stress during this exciting time!
Senior meetings begin on January 16 and 17. These are required for all senior students, during our Course Workshop bell schedules. Seniors will go to the gym for these meetings and will order their cap and gown, take their class panoramic photo, and other exciting things, preparing for graduation day.
On our website, under Students, is a Senior Class Information page. Please check this page often as it will hold a lot of information, and will be updated regularly. Soon you will receive a detailed email from Jolie Jacobs, listing the many events to plan for in the near future. Please keep your email address updated for us on Home Access.
There are many items and events with a financial component to them. We refuse to let any senior miss a graduation activity due to the financial burden. Please contact us any time to discuss financing options, or to support other senior families who may be having a harder time. Your student's Assistant Principal can help with any questions or financial support. Here's to a great final spring semester at Drake!
The Senior Tree Will LIVE but with a Different Look
When we received news of its damaged state, we were sad but not surprised. Fortunately, the tree is alive and will be healthier with heavy pruning. While it may not be the prettiest tree for the next few years, it will continue to have great PIRATE SPIRIT, and that is all we want from anyone in our community. We love you Senior Tree- sick or healthy, in full glory or recovery from a rough pruning. Thank you for giving us this opportunity to learn from you about what makes us all truly PIRATES.
