Organelles
Organelle
A specialized cellular structure in eukaryote cells analogous to an organ in the body. Most are surrounded by internal membranes and can be seen in the light or the electron microscope.
Lysosome
Type of vesicle originating from the golgi apparatus that contains a variety of enzymes. Lysomes are enclosed in a single walled membrane to protect the cell from harsh digestive enzymes.
vacuoles
A type of organelle found in plants and fungi cells and single-celled organs. The single large vacuole of the cell is surrounded by a membrane, called the tonoplast, and filled with a solution of water, dissolved , sugars, amino acids , and other materials.
Matrix
Holds ribosomes, DNA, and the pool of enzymes and other compounds involved in the metabolic cycle. Mitochondria are unique among organelles in that they have divide independently of a cell.
