Collaborations 💡
- Early Childhood Education (Cooper) - Hosted Lil' Cubs and teacher cadets for story time and book checkout.
- Academic Chemistry (Miller) - Reinforced concepts taught in class (ionic and covalent bonding) with a breakout game "The Ties that Bond".
- AP Government & DE Government (Andrews, O'Brien, Kim) - Instructed students on how to create button designs in Canva for their Campaign project. Assisted with button creation.
- Earth Science (Epifano) - Reinforced concepts taught in class (rocks and minerals) with a breakout game "Solid as a Rock."
- DE US History (Perdue) - Provided an overview of history/social science databases, introduced research pathfinder, and reviewed procedures for creating citations.
- Cat B (Crisp & Nelson) - Hosted Cat B students for storytime, book checkout, and a maker activity (felt picture frames).
- English 11 (Amiri, Ranado) - Curated database & web resources to assist with The Great Gatsby Research paper (comparing the 1920s to the 2020s). Gatsby Project Pathfinder
- Human Geography (Perdue)- Provided an overview of databases and resources to assist students with their Cultures Project.
- English 11 Honors (Golobic & Smith) - Facilitated Salem Witch Trials breakout to support student understanding of The Crucible.
- Government (Bales, Giddens, Bianco, Rutledge) - Reinforced concepts taught in class (government elections) with a breakout game "Ballot Box Bumble".
- Academic US Virginia History (Mayo) - Instructed students on how to create button designs in Canva for their Campaign project. Assisted with button creation.
- Intro to AP World History (Griffin) - Helped students build background knowledge for upcoming unit (Greek mythology) with an escape room game.
- Research Chemistry (Flynn, Reade, Miller, Bourlette, Lee) - Taught introduction to Scientific Research lesson centered on accessing and search strategies in science databases and search engines for quartly research project.
- Intro to AP World History (Allen) - Supported classroom instruction (Ancient Greece) by putting together a Breakout Edu kit for teacher use in classroom - "Are You Sure We Can Do This, Themistocles?".
- English 11 Academic (Wollengburg, Ranado) - Visited the classroom to promote books via book talks and book trailers.
- Theatre (Nelson & Noland) - Curated a collection of fairy tale and folk books to support instruction.
- AP Language (Fritze, Fitzgerald, Kitchens, Ranado) - Organized a fiction book tasting to support SSR in the classroom.
- English 12A (Flake, Johnson, Russo, Ellis) - Taught students how to find and access information within the LCPS databases. Supported their research into a true crime and assisted in the creation of a Crime Board in Canva as their learning product.
- Statistics & Probability (Hoyler, Rajchel, Soni) - Reinforced concepts taught in class (probability & statistics) with a breakout game "Alien Abduction"
- IFT/Computer Science (Slauson) - Created multiple stations for students to explore during Computer Science Education Week.

Collection Development 📚
This quarter we focused on the following collection development tasks:
- Weeding (Fiction): Ensures our library is up to date, organized, and inviting for our patrons
- Memoirs: Adding diverse memoirs to support instruction in DE English (Memoir Unit)
- Middle Grade Nostalgia: Caters to the needs of our freshman and sophomores
- Cat B Books: Insures our library is inclusive of students of all reading abilities
- High-Demand Fiction - Adding additional copies of our most requested books
- High-Demand Genres - Adding additional titles of our most requested genres (sports, mystery and thriller
We also continuously read professional jounals and book reviews to help us keep our collection current.
AP Language Book Tasting ☕
Students enjoyed a cup of hot chocolate or tea after their book tasting.
Students played Book Bingo and recorded their Top 5 Books from the tasting on a bookmark.

Library Volunteers 🐅
We continue to average between 4-12 student volunteers per day. Volunteer duties include: shelving books, straightening/organizing shelves, creating displays, decorations, and bookmarks, laminating, making deliveries, and assisting students with book selection and printer use.
We introduced our Volunteer of the Month award in October. Each winner receives a certificate, personalized email to their family, AP, and couselor, and their name on the Volunteer Window.

Fiction Addiction - our student run book club met at the begining of January to discuss I Must Betray You. They are currently reading If You Could See the Sun.
We had 11 staff members join us for a discussion of I Must Betray You in November. We had 9 staff memebers join us for our discussion of True Biz (rescheduled twice for snow).
Professional Development 🧠
Mrs. Major and Mrs. Kindler both attended the VaASL (Virginia Assocation of School Librarians) Conference in Chantilly. Mrs. Major is the PD Chair for LASL and provides PD opportunities and resources in the LASL Newsletter.
