A Message From Your Principal - Un mensaje de la Directora Sra. Fine
Dear Glenn Families,
We are extremely thrilled to bring our Astronauts back for what is going to be an incredible school year! We had such a phenomenal turn out at our Back to School Bash and LOVED seeing you all back on campus. Our teachers were SUPER excited to meet each and every one of you and have some fun 1st Day activities planned for our Astronauts.
Many questions came up about our safety protocols and visitors on campus. Effective Monday, August 23rd, masks will be mandatory in all NISD buildings for staff, students, and visitors. We will continue to supply hallway sanitizing stations and classrooms with hand sanitizer. High touch areas will continue to be cleaned often and classrooms and common areas will be disinfected daily. While we will not have a daily Health Screening Questionnaire we will rely on parents and guardians to monitor their child's health and keep students' home if they are experiencing any COVID - 19 symptoms and to contact their child's teacher to inform the school of the absence. At that time our school nurse will investigate and determine whether the student is able to return and if contact tracing is necessary. We will continue to provide notice of positive cases in your child's classroom and if anyone will be required to quarantine.
We ordered additional cafeteria tables to continue one way seating, which I am proud to say that I will continue as much as possible as this is a time of day where students are most vulnerable as they remove masks to eat lunch. We do remind students to eat first then cover their nose and mouth with their face covering before they start chatting with neighbors. We will add classroom plexi where ample spacing is not available and where students may gather for small group instruction.
Our morning procedures will remain as it encourages our students to take advantage of free breakfast and promotes the safety and security of our littlest Astronauts as they remain in the cafeteria until 7:40 am when they are picked up by their teacher. Students in 2nd - 5th grade will eat breakfast and walk to their hallway where they will be actively monitored by a grade level teacher. Our dismissal procedures will also remain the same - students will be dismissed at 3:10 pm. If you only have one child at Glenn, you will pick up in the cafeteria loop and if you have multiple children at Glenn, you will pick up in the main loop.
Parents are welcome to visit the campus for Parent / Teacher Conferences, Conferences with Administration, the Counselors, or CIS (Communities in School). All visitors will need to ID and will be logged into our Raptor System if they choose to be on campus. This will serve as contact tracing should an investigation be needed due to a positive case.
We are looking forward to what is going to be a phenomenal school year and will continue to do everything to keep our children and staff safe. We will continue to have campus wide events to bring our families together this school year. Please reach out if you have any questions or concerns. We are here to serve.
