Nominate A Great Teacher!
Every year, Region 15 staff and families are asked to pause and reflect upon the teachers who have had a positive impact on their lives. I can tell you from personal experience that ALL of the teachers at LMES are wonderful, caring, dedicated professionals who give it their all no matter what happens, including during a global pandemic! Please take a few minutes to read the invitation below and nominate a Long Meadow teacher for the Region 15 Teacher of the Year.
Celebrating Diversity Through Poetry!
This past week on May 21st we celebrated World Day for Cultural Diversity. Usually, this means every grade level from preschool to 5th-grade engages in activities that expand our horizons about what makes us different and also honors and celebrates those differences. This year during the COVID19 pandemic, those activities were mostly online. Here is one example of celebrating diversity, Bio-Poems created by 2nd-grade students.
Memorial Day Is Monday!
On the final Monday in May, Americans everywhere honor and pay respect to those men and women who have served and given their lives in the US military branches. During today's Morning Announcements, I encouraged students to learn about Memorial Day and the significance of this holiday. Below are some links with videos about Memorial Day as well as a preview of the famous, annual Memorial Day concert that will be streaming this holiday weekend. Long Meadow staff and families pay tribute and honor our fallen veterans from all generations and continue to thank those family members who have served or continue to serve in the military.

Become A Backyard Naturalist!
One of my favorite YouTube shows is called It's OK To Be Smart by PBS Digital Studios, about science, curiosity, and discovery of the natural world all around you! The link to the episode below is all about becoming a backyard naturalist, including a free app co-created by National Geographic called iNaturalist. Learn how to explore your backyard and see the many creatures that live under rocks and on branches! Be sure to check it out and, as always, if you download the app make certain that you are comfortable with having your child use it. There is another app created by the iNaturalist team for younger children called Seek, which does the same thing but is geared towards lower elementary students.
