MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL OPHUS

Dear Fairview Families,

As you know, this week was Staff Appreciation Week. Thank you so much for all of the kindness that was shown to all of us working here at Fairview! Our PTO did an amazing job of treating the entire staff to delicious meals and various treats throughout the week, and many of you participated in showing kindness to us as well. We have truly felt acknowledged and appreciated all week long! I am very thankful to be working in a community that values education and all of us who work each day to help our students learn and grow. Special thanks to Jacki Kochanski and Jaime Patterson for their leadership in organizing all of these special days for us and to all of you who contributed. We also had another exciting PTO sponsored assembly this week. I’m sure your children came home talking about BMX bike rider, Matt Wilhelm, who talked to our students about the importance of kindness, related his message to his own experiences growing up, and showed off some amazing bike tricks! Special thanks to Audrey Canavino for helping organize this great show. What a great week it has been!

Looking forward to next week, as shared in our last newsletter, we will be holding Fine Arts Night on Wednesday, May 11th. Families are welcome to come to this open house style event to walk the school and look at many samples of student artwork posted around the building between 5:30 pm-7:00 pm. During this time frame, the Spring Book Fair will be open until 6:45 pm as well, and the PTO is going to have an ice cream treat from Capannari’s available for students to enjoy for the discounted price of $1! The evening will culminate with our Spring Chorus Concert starting at 7:00 pm. Then, on Friday, May 13th, we will hold the PTO Fun Fair from 4:00 pm-7:00 pm on the bus turnaround side of the school. The Fun Fair will be held outdoors this year, but will be moved inside if the weather does not cooperate. Be sure to read the flier posted in today’s newsletter for more details on how you can volunteer and participate. The Fun Fair will include lots of games, music, a cake walk, a food truck, photo booth, candy wheel and more! We hope you are able to join us for all of the fun with both of these events!

Later this month on Tuesday, May 24th, we will enjoy our annual Field Day. This event is a great way to celebrate the school year, work together as a team, and enjoy a day of being outdoors and physically active. In order to hold this event successfully, we do need help. If you are able to volunteer your time to help run a station at Field Day, please sign up using this form. You can volunteer for just the morning or afternoon shift or sign up all day. We appreciate any help you can provide.

Thank you for taking the time to read through today’s newsletter. Have a wonderful weekend and a Happy Mother’s Day!

Sincerely,

Dan Ophus

Fairview Principal

READ-A-WAY APRIL CALENDARS

April was the last month for PTO'S Read-A-Way program so don't forget to turn in your completed calendar no later than Monday, May 9th.

Thank you to Mrs. Patterson for all she did to organize this for our students.

REMINDER

PLEASE REMEMBER TO SEND YOUR STUDENT IN WITH A WATER BOTTLE EVERY DAY. MAKE SURE THAT THEIR NAME IS ON IT AS WE HAVE QUITE A FEW LOST WATER BOTTLES IN OUR LOST AND FOUND.

BIRTHDAYS

The Fairview PTO has a wonderful history of giving students a book for their birthday. If your child is celebrating a birthday this month or has celebrated a birthday since the beginning of this school year, please have them go onto ClassLink on their chrome book and go to the Birthday Book link or click on the graphic to access the link. They must choose a book that is on the Google document listing all the grade level books.

If your student hasn't selected a book, please remind them to make their selection. Make sure they go to ClassLink or click on the birthday cake to make their selection...don't forget to pick the tab for the appropriate grade level list.

STUDENT SIGN-IN/SIGN-OUT PROCEDURE

The office's procedure for those times when you need to sign your child in or out of school has changed. We maintain an electronic sign-in/sign-out sheet in the office so all you have to do is drop your student off (if arriving late) and we will sign them in and get them down to their class. If you need to sign your child out, ring the doorbell, tell us who you are picking up, and we will send your student out the front door.

BUS RIDERS

Is your child a bus rider? Are there times when they will be picked up instead of riding the bus home at the end of the day? If so, it is important that the school office is aware if a student will not be riding the bus home. Please click on the bus for a handy form that you can fill out and send to school with your student. You can always email the front office and the teacher to let us know of an alternative end of day transportation plan.

KEEP THE FRONT OFFICE INFORMED

When emailing your student's teacher regarding vacation plans, illness, doctor appointments, etc., please include the front office staff in your communication.

Also, please contact Fairview School’s office if your home/cell phone number, emergency contact numbers, or email address have changed.

If you have moved, please immediately contact the front office so we can update your student's records.
