Connection and Gratitude
I wanted to take this moment to share my gratitude for our Ohlone community. During this time of challenge, we have come together to create incredible moments for students both in and outside of school. These moments have been opportunities for our students to shine, share, create, and appreciate the ideas and perspectives of others. Everyone is giving 100% right now, even when personal resources are low. Thank you to our staff, our PTA, and to those who have gone above and beyond to create these moments for our students. Thank you to our families who make it possible for students to participate in these fabulous events. It was great to see parents dancing with their kids on Friday Family Fun Night!
Seeing our middle school students bike to school this week and hearing joyful vaccination stories from staff has increased the hopefulness of a brighter future of connection ahead. We have already begun thinking about the transition back to school and how we can ensure the social and emotional wellbeing of each student. In fact, Site Council added this as a goal in our Ohlone Safety Plan.
On a personal note, I am deeply saddened, and quite frankly, angered by the current and ongoing violence toward Asian Americans in this country, most notably in the bay area. As a Japanese American and Black American woman, I feel concern for my family's basic safety. I imagine the same may be happening for Asian American staff and families at Ohlone. Please know that our community stands tall and strong in solidarity with you. Please reach out anytime. I am here for support or if you would just like to talk. I have included some resources below that may be helpful for all of us.
Please take care, beautiful Ohlone community. I am so very grateful for what we have here.
