AMS Hornet News
Back to School Edition, August, 2023
From the Principal's Desk
School starts for students on August 28 and we are super excited to get the 2023-2024 school year going! The first day is a half day. Our teachers have started to return and classrooms are turning into inviting learning spaces! The common spaces are clean and sparkling! Soon our staff will be doing professional learning to continue growing as educators! We hope that you share in the excitement! Let's go Hornets!
Please visit our Kearsley Community Schools website for all sorts of helpful information.
Sixth grade and new student orientation will take place on August 23 at 6:00 and August 24 at 1:00. Please plan to report to the gym for a brief presentation and then the building will be open for you to walk around so that the students can become familiar with the layout of our school.
Please make sure that you register your student. The direct link to complete this process is sent from the district level is also available on the main page of our district website.
Schedules will soon be available in StudentVue and ParentVue. The 7th-8th grade students can find them using Classlink on their Chromebooks. We do our best to get students into the classes they request and typically do not make schedule changes once the schedules are published. The absolute deadline for a parent to request a change will be September 6.
Open House for all students is August 29 from 6:00-7:00. This is a time for students to show their families around the school and for parents / guardians to meet the AMS staff.
Here are some reminders to discuss with your student before the first day:
- Cell phones should be off and put away until the student’s lunch time.
- Hoods and hats should be removed upon entering the building.
- Students should walk in the hallways.
- Students should enter all classrooms from the main hallway.
- Backpacks can be brought to school, but should be left in the student’s locker.
- Students need to adhere to our AMS dress code.

What is PBiS?
We want all of our AMS Hornets to keep the code. They should be:

At AMS, we teach our behavioral expectations and acknowledge students who follow those expectations. Students who need extra support, will receive it.
Watch for special celebrations, acknowledgements, and our B-Code tickets that can be "spent" in our school store!
Parent Drop-Off and Pick-Up Procedures
Students should not be dropped off before 7:15 a.m. The doors will remain closed to all students until 7:15.
At dismissal, students will be asked to exit the building by 2:45 and go directly to their car. All students should be picked up no later than 3:00 p.m.
Please do not drop your student off in the parking lot. For safety reasons, we do not want students passing between moving cars to enter the building.
Should you have to drop your student off late or pick them up early please follow these procedures.
- Between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., please call the school office 591-9929, if you plan on bringing your student into school late or if you will be picking them up early. Students should remember to check in the office upon arrival.
- For the protection of your student, outside doors will be locked from 7:45 a.m. thru 2:45 p.m. We encourage students not to open the doors to parents or visitors. If you are picking up your child before dismissal, please park in front of the office on the west side of the building and call 591- 9929. At that time we will send your child to the car. Feel free to come into the office as well.
Please help us keep kids safe by adhering to this plan. We are attempting to make mornings and afternoons safer, quicker, and more organized for everyone. To accomplish these goals we will need everyone to cooperate.
