Classroom Technology Tips video - https://youtu.be/dVlIindhQYM
Please watch this video by our Technology Integration Coach to gain better insight into navigating the classroom technology our students are using. Here's one of the LiveStream sessions from Tuesday night.
Student mask supply
Two cloth masks provided by the state will be sent home with students on Friday, September 11th and Monday, September 14th. Virtual students who transition to Face-to-Face next nine weeks will be provided two masks when they report to school.
COVID Exposed and COVID Positive
Our students seem to be having such a great time being back together in the school. Parents, please remember, it is very important to call the health room if your child has been exposed to or is positive for Covid 19 as soon as this information is known. This will help determine if your child needs to stay at home and for how long and if anyone in their class will need to stay home from school as well. It's the best way to contain any potential spread. Thank you.
Myschoolfees.com
Opened on Tuesday, September 1st. We appreciate the parents who have already paid the fees. We currently have an outstanding bill for locker servicing which took place this summer and student agendas. All students who are Face-to-Face at any point throughout the course of the school year will be billed for locker use. Student agendas were pre-ordered for each student. If you neglected to pay the hall locker fee or for your agenda, please do so as soon as possible. The locker, agenda, mailing and classroom instruction funds are invaluable. Thanks.
Transition to 2nd Nine Weeks
Mid-September - Link will be sent out for Learning Option (F2F/Virtual) change
End of September - Deadline for Learning Option change
Mon., Oct. 19th - Begin 2nd nine weeks
Half-Way Day - Progress Reports
September 25th is Half-way Day at Bumpus. That's our Progress Report day. RFB does not send home traditional Progress Reports to be signed but instead asks that all parents and students verify that grades have been reviewed in INow. More details and a verification form will be coming soon.
Agendas arrived...
Virtual students may pick theirs up M-F, 8:15 - 4:00 in the main office of the school. Thank you.

INFORMATION FROM OUR SCHOOL NURSE, MRS. SCHMITH
Parents, please remember, it is very important to call the health room if your child has been exposed to or is positive for Covid 19 as soon as this information is known. This will help determine if your child needs to stay at home and for how long and if anyone in their class will need to stay home from school as well. All information that is discussed and obtained will be kept confidential and not disclosed to anyone. (except Dr. Maddox, Mrs. Phillips, HCS lead nurse and Health Department (if necessary)) without your permission.
Please see link below for guidance when your child has to be home due to COVID.
You can contact the Nurse Schmith in the health room at 205-439-2230 or email at mschmith@hoover.k12.al.us
Thank you for allowing us to keep your child safe and healthy while at school.
Contacting and Visiting Us
Our bumpushelp@hoover.k12.al.us email address will continue to be open if you have questions. Our website will be updated frequently with up-to-date information. We request that everyone entering the building wear a mask (of some form) to protect us all. If you need to go beyond the lobby area into the building, we will also need to take your temperature. Thank you for your patience.
Myschoolfees
MySchoolFees opened last Tuesday. Please pay your child's school fees online as soon as possible.
Please remember that Face to Face students using lockers MUST pay the Locker Fee of $10.00. (It is listed under Optional Fees this year because our virtual students who are not using lockers don't have to pay it.) We have the lockers serviced each year and must collect this money to pay the bill for that service. Thanks for your understanding and cooperation!
PARENT HOME PORTAL INOW INFORMATION
ATTENDANCE - MRS. PHILLIPS
Attendance questions? Please email Mrs. Phillips at aphillips@hoover.k12.al.us or call (205) 439-2268
- For the first 4-week staggered schedule: Please make every effort to make appointments on the student's virtual days so valuable, in-person instruction is not missed.
- A parent/doctor note is still required within three (3) days of returning in order to excuse an absence or check-in/out and can be dropped in the excuse boxes in the main lobby or throughout the school.
- Anticipated absence forms need to be filled out entirely with parent and all teachers signatures, and turned into the 2nd floor office for approval at least three (3) days prior to the anticipated absence in order for it to be excused. Anticipated Absence Forms should include all consecutive school days within the requested time (including in-building and out-of-building days). Students can pick up the form in the 2nd floor office or download it off the Attendance page on the Bumpus website, have parents fill out and sign, and then have students bring it to school for the teachers to sign prior to turning back in to the 2nd floor office for approval.
NEWS FROM OUR COUNSELORS
Hello Parents/Guardians,
September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month.
Suicide is the second leading cause of death for young people ages 10 – 24. It is also one of the leading causes of PREVENTABLE death. We lose approximately 130 young people nationwide in this age group to suicide each week. FOUR out of FIVE teens who attempt suicide have given clear warning signs. That means in 80% of these cases we have an opportunity to intervene and possibly save a young person who is at-risk.
If you are immediately concerned about your child or a friend, text Crisis Text Line at 741741 or call the Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255). These services are free, confidential and available 24/7.

INFORMATION FROM OUR P.E. DEPARTMENT
Parents/Guardians,
The Bumpus Middle School Physical Education Department wants to reassure you, that your child’s safety is our top priority. Our goal is to provide a quality physical education experience for all students while practicing social distancing in a safe and supportive environment.
In all Physical Education classes at Bumpus, students are instructed to wear their masks when inside and remain aware of the social distancing. They sanitize their hands before entering and after leaving the gym. Each student has an assigned spot labeled on the gym floor with tape. The assigned spots are spaced apart to ensure each student is socially distanced. Students are allowed to bring water bottles to PE. Up to 3 students at a time are allowed to be excused to the restroom during class. When class is over, we stagger dismissal between the classes and using several exits to assist with the social distancing efforts.
When we go outside, students are constantly reminded to remain socially distant. If students are able to maintain their distance, students may take their masks off. Please remind your child that for them to be able to remove their mask when outside, they MUST be at least 6 feet away from anyone.
Students will never be required to do any strenuous activities (i.e. running, lifting, pushing/pulling, etc…) while wearing a mask.
Please remind your child to communicate with their teachers if an issue arises in class. Please continue to communicate with us regarding any concerns you may have.
