Mrs. Wells' Weekly Reader

May 16th-20th

Topics This Week

Reading-We are reading and studying about different land forms.

Math-We will be working on patterns, growing patterns, and creating patterns. Students will describe and represent ratios, use table to represent and predict change, and work with numeric sequence as they create, describe, and extend patterns.

Writing-We will be working on writing an ending for their small moment. We will also work on adding details through similes, idioms, and other forms of figurative language throughout their writing. The students will also take the final spelling assessment later this week.

Social Studies-We are going to compare and contrast different land forms found throughout the United States, and discuss the different characteristics of those land forms. Later in the week, they will build a landform map in groups.

Mrs. Stamey's Baby Shower

Please remember that Mrs. Stamey's surprise baby shower will be Tuesday, May 24th. I am going to go and get a class gift to give her that day. You are able to contribute to a class gift by sending in money for Mrs. Londa and myself to have to put towards the gift. If you do not want to send in money, but purchase a separate gift, she is having a little girl.

Spring Pictures

The kids were sent home last week with a large envelope containing their Spring Pictures. Inside the envelope are directions about what you need to do if you want to purchase some or all of the sheets.

If you do not purchase the sheets and don't return them to the school, then your child will not be able to receive a yearbook at the end of the year. Please make sure you are getting those back, either the money, pictures, or both as soon as possible.

Homework Update

Second grade decided that last week would be our last week for homework. We are going to have each student read for 25 minutes each night. They will not have to get a reading log filled out.

Each child is being sent home a list of 2nd Grade High Frequency Words for them to study. At the end of the year, we are going to have a Spelling Bee. We will start by having one in the classroom, and the top 3 will represent our class. When a date is decided, I will inform the families.
