Some Reminders From Nurse Carol:
- Before any prescription medications can be given at school, you must have a form signed by your child's doctor. (Forms are available from the nurse.)
- Non-prescription medications require a form signed by the parent/guardian.
Morning Arrival
Please remember, all students riding in cars should be dropped off through the car line. If you need to walk your child in, please park in a parking spot and not in the grass or under the trees. Please do not walk your child through the car line. This hinders traffic and creates a potentially dangerous situation. After the first two weeks of school students are expected to walk to class by themselves. Thank you for your cooperation in helping to keep our car line moving smoothly and providing a safe arrival for our students.
Afternoon Dismissal
We ask that you please stay in the car line during dismissal to keep our children safe and make the process go as smoothly as possible. Please do not come into the office for dismissal of your child.
As a reminder, please remember that all early dismissals for appointments should be before 2:00 as we are getting ready for car/bus dismissals after this time. Please try to reserve early dismissals for the occasional appointment only so that we may minimize distractions in the classroom. Thank you for your cooperation!
BE FANTASTIC
Based on Ron Clark’s Essential 55, the goal of BE FANTASTIC is to encourage excellent behavior and citizenship throughout the day for all students.
These ideas will be reinforced throughout the school year by homeroom teachers, related arts teachers, and periodically on the morning news show.
Classes have the opportunity to earn tickets by demonstrating the exceptional behavior:
Teachers, staff, and administrators may give tickets to classes when they see FANTASTIC behavior demonstrated. Prizes will be awarded every nine weeks to those classes demonstrating the most FANTASTIC behavior.
Literacy News
Our school year is off to a great start! I have enjoyed seeing all of our students work hard on reading and writing in their classrooms. During the month of September, we will have a couple of school-wide literacy celebrations going on.
· September 8: International Literacy Day Students will learn that children all around the world read similar books. We will focus on different version of fairy tales from around the world.
· September 15: Dot Day Students will be reading The Dot by Peter Reynolds and celebrating creativity. Students and staff are encouraged to wear some dots to school on Dot Day!
· #CPSreads: We would love to see our students and families reading outside of our building. Please use the hashtag #CPSreads to share pics of your reading on social media.
Happy Reading!

Have You Filled a Bucket Today?
Have You Filled a Bucket Today?
Concrete Primary is a Bucket–Filling school! Each day, the students, teachers, and staff will strive to “fill buckets” by showing kindness, appreciation, and respect to others. Students will be recognized on the morning news each Friday who have been caught being “Bucket Fillers” during the week. In addition, each teacher will choose 2 students each month who have consistently filled buckets by demonstrating the word of the month. Those students will be invited to a special Bucket-Filling Celebration hosted by Mrs. Jones and Oliver the Cat.
The goals of the Bucket-Filling program:
1. To teach children how to reach out and express love, respect and appreciation to others
2. To help children become other-centered rather than
self-centered
3. To help children express their feelings (good and bad) in a healthy manner
4. To help children understand where feelings originate and how to protect their feelings from being hurt
5. To establish a framework for more constructive words and
actions and less bullying
6. To create more positive home and school environments
During the month of September, Mrs. Jones & Oliver the Cat will be popping into classrooms to discuss how to be a Bucket Filler by showing respect.
Respect—Showing others they’re important through our words and actions.
