Message From the Principal
Dear Parents,
Shabbat Shalom,
Mrs. Becky TroodlerSheva Brachot for Morah Rachael and Yehoshua
Dear Parents,
With Morah Rachael’s wedding quickly approaching, we decided we wanted to do something special for her so we could celebrate her wedding together. We also really wanted to use the page in our Birkonim that had a picture of bride and groom on it with Sheva Brachot. We therefore decided to create Sheva Brachot for Morah Rachael and Yehoshua at school!
Before we could start a project creating Sheva Brachot, we had to access our prior knowledge about Sheva Brachot. We compiled our knowledge and then made a list of questions we had about Sheva Brachot. These questions would guide our exploration throughout the project.
Next we did research by creating questions to ask our parents about their sheva brachot and using our other questions to ask Rabbi Sinensky, our expert Rosh Beit Midrash.
Based on our research, we created 3 committees: Decorations, Food, and Entertainment. We chose which committee we wanted to be a part of by signing up.
All groups began by brainstorming ideas and then sketching a plan for their ideas.
The decoration committee decided on flowers, pictures with hearts, and chains. The food committee decided on a three course meal that included homemade fruit salad, smoothies and pizza along with wedding background music. The entertainment committee thought of songs to sing, dancing, a magic show, and a puzzle competition for the Chatan and Kallah.
Everyone got to work!
It was finally Morah Rachael’s wedding! Many friends attended the wedding and got to wish Morah Rachael and Yehoshua mazel tov on their wedding day!
Now it was time for our actual Sheva Brachot. We worked all morning preparing.
Morah Rachael and Yehoshua arrived with their families. We began by singing the songs we prepared. We performed our magic show, had our meal, said birkat hamazon and sheva brachot, said a dvar torah, presented a gift, danced, played a puzzle game, had dessert and said goodbye.
We all miss Morah Rachael and are eagerly awaiting her return next week.
In order to facilitate reflection and metacognition, the last step in our learning process was meeting with our committees and reflecting on what we liked and did not like about the project, what worked and did not work, what we learned and what we still want to learn, and what we will do the same or differently next time we do a project.
We reflected that we truly achieved our goal and fulfilled the mitzvah of making Morah Rachael and Yehoshua happy. We decided that next time we needed to try out the food and decorations ahead of time in case they need redesigning (some of the chains fell off the wall and could have used stronger tape).
On Friday we gathered together to watch a video about our process of learning. This helps us to take a few moments to remember and value our process of learning as a community of learners.
This project was an opportunity for our friends to create a community experience that truly was meant to celebrate and be b’sameach their beloved Morah and her Chattan. This project allowed us to work collaboratively to design and implement our design. This project also afforded us the opportunity to learn about weddings, Sheva Brachot, and their beautiful mitzvot and minhagim.
May we be zoche to celebrate many smachot together in the future as a KYLS family!
Shabbat Shalom,
The Morot and Rav
