Program Spotlight: IT Professionals
Our Program - IT Professionals
Northland Career Center offers a program for students wanting to explore the IT industry.
IT Professionals prepares students for positions in the Information Technology field. Students work toward earning their PC Pro & A+ Certifications in their first year. Students will also cover networking and learn basic Cisco router and switch configurations and protocols. Second year students are working toward earning their Routing and Switching certification. Students will have enough knowledge to be prepared for two-thirds of the CCNA certification. Students have access to work on their skills 24/7 through the “TestOut” website.
Our Instructor - Mr. Stan Weeks
Mr. Weeks began his teaching career in 2005 as a middle school mathematics teacher. He transitioned to PITSCO as a lab instructor where he facilitated his students on numerous hands-on labs. Before coming to Northland Career Center, Mr. Weeks became certified in Project Lead the Way (PLTW) and instructed students in Design & Modeling as well as Automation & Robotics.
Mr. Weeks was a robotics coach with FIRST Robotics Competition for four years at his previous school district. Mr. Weeks graduated from Missouri Western University with a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Park University with a Master of Science in Education, and University of Missouri with a Educational Specialist in Technology in Schools.
Alum Feature - Mr. Tyler Younker
Mr. Tyler Younger is a LEAD Innovation Studio/Park Hill High School graduate and 2021 NCC IT Professionals graduate. Tyler has taken the experience he obtained at NCC and used it in his current job working as a help desk technician for the Platte County School District.
"The technical knowledge I gained while at NCC definitely helped me find the job I have now, and the personal experiences I gained with the side projects definitely helped me sound better during the interview," Tyler said.
Side projects Tyler got to participate in while at NCC include repairing laptops, mobile devices, a roomba and running HDMI cables in the Health Sciences room.
Tyler said that he has many fond memories of NCC, but the top things that resonate with him include earning his first IT certification, being allowed to experiment with learning in class and his first big project of repairing two iPads.
NCC is a great way to get introduced to a trade, Tyler said.
"There’s so much that NCC allows you to do that’s simply impossible to achieve in a normal high school environment," he said. "I enjoyed my time greatly and anyone else who's passionate in learning a trade will definitely enjoy it as well."

Students will explore U.S. Constitution Law and the Missouri Criminal Code. Some of the skills and knowledge of the general duties performed by law enforcement officials will be presented by officers from a variety of local law enforcement agencies adding their knowledge and experience with lectures and demonstration throughout the program. Students will participate in lab activities related to each area of study.

Alum Features - Mr. Ade Bookhart and Mr. Seth Fillpot
2018 NCC and Staley High School graduate Ade Bookhart was able to utilize what he learned in the Law Enforcement/CSI program immediately after graduating. Ade worked security after high school.
"And all the knowledge that I learned in my class was very useful," Ade said.
Law Enforcement had always interested Ade so when he was told about NCC's program, he jumped at the chance to participate, he said.
While at NCC, Ade participated in SkillsUSA, the blood drive and gave tours to future students and visitors.
He remembers fondly participating in SkillsUSA state competition and supporting all the programs NCC has to offer.
In June, Ade starts the police academy. He said he recommends NCC to others.
"You will learn so much in your programs and you will meet life time friends," he said.
Mr. Seth Fillpot is a 2018 Liberty North and NCC graduate. Seth graduated from NCC's LE/CSI program and immediately pursued a career in Law Enforcement. He just graduated from the police academy in March and works as a police officer at the Kansas City Missouri Police Department.
NCC has made a reputation for itself, Seth said. That reputation helped boost his resume, he said.
"NCC has a great reputation with the community and business leaders" Seth said. "Any time that I mention that I attended NCC, it always seems like a big plus and an extra card in my pocket."
While at NCC, Seth was involved in National Technical Honor Society and SkillsUSA. He competed in district, state and national levels.
NCC can be a guide for someone not sure what to do after high school, Seth said.
"I would recommend NCC to everyone, regardless of their career goals," he said. "If you know what you want your future career to look like, you can make a great investment in yourself by attending NCC. If you aren't quite sure what you want out of your career, NCC has a lot of great programs to help guide you into something that interests you."
