I also want to extend a huge thank to you-- the parents and guardians of our students at Barton. We recognize that you too are being faced with many challenges and greatly appreciate your efforts in staying connected and supporting your child's continuity of learning.
Sign Language Story Time
Karen Mueller-Harder is a sign language instructor who has been teaching us “sign supported speech”, which uses ASL signs along with spoken English, to help us communicate with friends who use sign language. She is making some short videos for families to watch with their kids during this time, and we will be sharing them with you! We hope you will watch them and practice using the signs with your family at home, so that when we can all be together again, we will have nurtured a lush garden of communication!
Here is the first recorded “storytime” for you: “Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?” The video starts with reading and signing the book (you can look at the illustrations in the video, or follow along with your own copy if you have one), and then (starting at 4:55) I teach all the signs in the story:
