Why Try - Overview

The WhyTry Approach
When WhyTry Founder Christian Moore became a social worker, he discovered that the youth he was working with at a local alternative high school were having a difficult time retaining the principles they were being taught.
He soon realized why: The majority of these students were visual learners. Christian started drawing pictures that represented the concepts the youth needed to learn, and was excited to find they were actually paying attention.
Not only that, they were remembering the information in the pictures.
Soon Christian had created a series of ten visual analogies, drawing from both his time at the alternative high school and his own experiences as a student with severe learning disabilities.

WhyTry- Academic Success
Sometimes we get so caught up in trying to help students pass the next big assessment that we forget to teach them the reasons they are learning what they’re learning.
The goal of WhyTry’s multisensory approach is to help students see the
relevance in everyday education and understand how positive choices today can bring them closer to
achieving their dreams.

WhyTry - Bullying Prevention
The statistics are alarming. According to the National Education Association,160,000 children miss school every day for fear of being attacked or intimidated.
The National School Safety Center reports that American schools harbor over 2 million bullies and nearly 3 million victims. 90 percent of fourth through eighth graders report being victims of bullying. 87 percent of school shootings are carried out by a victim seeking revenge, and one in ten student dropouts are due to a bullying problem at school.

WhyTry - Dropout Prevention
1 in 4 students in the U.S. drop out of school each year.
That’s nearly 1.3 million students. Each one has the potential to become something great. Each one has an obstacle that’s keeping them from getting there. Part of WhyTry’s mission is to help even the lowest performing students overcome their obstacles and make it to graduation day.
