A Message From Mr. Swanson
We are just three weeks into the new semester and things are happening at McNeil Canyon School. Teachers have many great activities and projects planned for the weeks ahead. We also begin to look at plans for next year. Those plans are based upon the staffing that we will be given based on projected enrollment and available funding. McNeil Canyon anticipates an enrollment similar to our 142 students this year. Unfortunately, because our state legislators chose last year to not produce a budget that involves other sources of revenue, we are stuck in the uncertainty of previous years and we will not know the staffing levels for next year until the legislators make their final decision in April.
Between now and then there is much that you can do to get the word out to as many people as possible regarding the importance of K-12 education. Our students deserve the best we can provide.
Please let your legislators know what kind of difference their funding decisions have made for your child. You should also contact your local school board members and borough assembly members to let them know your interests. Letters from parents or e-mails are the kind of information that influence their decisions. Your input is very valuable. On the lighter side, the snow is piling up and we are having some great fun enjoying it.

Mrs. Mattea's Title I Corner - Movie Night!!
In February, EVERY McNeil student will be receiving a book from the Title 1 program. K-2nd students will receive Curious George by H.A. Ray and 3rd-6th students will receive Stuart Little by E.B. White. Families are encouraged to read these books together in preparation for Title 1’s “Family Book Vs Movie Night” where the corresponding movies to each of the above books will be screened. Families will also receive discussion questions to help them determine which rendition of each story “wins” in their mind!
Concessions for our Book Vs Movie Night will also act as a fundraiser for the 6th grade class. Come support!
Family Book Vs Movie Night, February 24th, 6:30pm at McNeil
Hope to see you all there!
