John Green was born August 24th, 1977. He was always interested in writing and began writing Looking for Alaska while he was a publishing assistant and a production editor at Booklist, the book review journal in Chicago. His first book was published in 2005 and since then he has written five other books.

Characters

Hazel Grace-

Hazel is teenage cancer patient living in the city of Indianapolis with her two parents. She has learned to accept the fact her life may fall short due to the terminal phalanxifor cancer, which takes away her lungs ability to work properly. Though she does not allow it to bring her down, she worries about her parents and how they would do if she were not there any longer.



Augustus Waters "Gus"-

Gus is an attractive 17 year old who uses his charm to effortlessly make Hazel fall for him. Just like Hazel Grace he suffers from a terminal illness, but his is osteosarcoma. Gus is bestriends with Issacc, another teen with a terminal illness, and they both attend support group with Hazel.

Conflict

All the teen characters in this book are suffering from different terminal diseases. They all continue living their lives and facing the reality that they may not live too much longer. Each character faces their own conflicts depending on the disease they're living with.

Plot Teaser

The Fault in Our Stars in a dramatic romance novel that takes you through the life of two teen cancer patients who fall in love. Hazel grace is a 16 year old girl who had been diagnosed with a cancer that keeps the lungs from allowing her to breath properly. She is not so much afraid of death than she is afraid of leaving her parents too soon. Through a support group she is able to catch eyes of her soon-to-be teen love, Gus Waters, a previous cancer patient. Will their relationship follow through or will her unfortunate diagnosis of cancer put it to a halt?

Quotes and Passages

"Your realize that that trying to keep your distance from me will not lessen my affection for you. All efforts to save me from you will fail."-Gus

This quote proves the love Gus has for Hazel is so strong that she herself can't even keep him from her. It also reveals that Gus clearly knows that Hazel doesn't break his heart if she were to pass away and he doesn't care because he states in another passage "Oh, i wouldn't mind, Hazel Grace. It would be a privilege to have my heart broken by you."

Who would would enjoy this book?

The reader who would prefer this book would be one who enjoys reading romance novels. This book is all about the tragic love story between two characters facing their own life situations. It is very heart-felt in interesting to read.

My personal opinion.

I really enjoyed this book and couldn't put it down. It was always interesting and kept me wanting to read more. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys love stories.
