Holmes Middle School
New members of Holmes Middle’s Parks Club received a passport book for North Carolina State Parks, so they can collect stamps every time they visit a State Park in the state of North Carolina!
Congratulations to Holmes Middle’s Battle of the Books team for placing second at the district competition. Way to go Mustangs!
Students in Mr. Conkle's Science class participated in demostrations on the reactivity of metals!
McMichael High School
A total of 45 sophomores from McMichael High visited Rockingham Community College to see programs in Cosmetology, Chemistry, Child Development, Information Technology, Trail Building, Criminal Justice, Industrial Technology, Agriculture, and Fine Arts!
Phoenix STEM Academy students volunteered for cleanup of the McMichael High School parking lot and front yard. We are grateful for our attentive and hard-working students!
Congratulations to our Battle of the Books students for a job well done this year!

Morehead High School
At the Monday, March 13 RCS Board of Education meeting, the district recognized two wrestlers from Morehead High School who won NCHSAA 2A individual state championships last month at the Greensboro Coliseum. Elijah Horton won the state championship in North Carolina’s 2A ranks in the 106-pound weight class, while Panthers star Jared Thomas won the state championship in the 120-pound weight class. Both will be back at MHS next season as they go after back-to-back state titles. Congrats to Elijah, Jared, and Morehead High wrestling!
Mr. Nathan Hines, Director of the Morehead High School Band received a trophy for the Veterans Day Parade!

Not only did all five teams from the Morehead High School Robotics team qualify for the State Championships this season, but all five MHS teams also made it past the qualification rounds and into the final elimination rounds. Listed below are their individual results and when they were eliminated:

9064X - Finished 2nd overall as a tournament finalist and won the Design Award.
This qualifies 9064X for the World Championships in Dallas on April 25th. - 27th.
Fall 2022 CTE Credential's Earned Celebration at Morehead High! During each lunch, students were called onto the stage to be recognized for any credential they earned during the Fall semester. It was shine time for all!
Reidsville Middle School
Reidsville Middle eighth grade students engaged in a science lab where they used colored marshmallows to represent atoms of different molecules!
Congratulations to Ms. Collins for winning the Wellness Challenge at Reidsville Middle School!. Ms. Collins won a Fitbit Inspire 2 for her wellness efforts, courtesy of a grant funded by the Reidsville Area Foundation and Rockingham County Schools Area Foundation! Way to go!
Shout Out to Reidsville Middle School’s Raider Students of the Week! These students have been recognized for exhibiting “perseverance”, which is our school’s character trait of the month!

Reidsville High School
Rockingham County Schools was proud to welcome the Carolina Panthers and many members of the local community to Reidsville High School on the morning of Tuesday, March 7. RHS held a groundbreaking ceremony for the new field turf and track that will be installed at the Rams’ home stadium, provided in large measure by a $100,000 National Football League grant endorsed by the Carolina Panthers! Multiple Board members, Rockingham County Commissioner Mark Richardson, as well as former RCS Superintendent Dr. Rodney Shotwell and former Assistant Superintendent Dr. Sonja Parks joined Superindendent Stover and other RCS school officials on this very special occasion!
At the Monday, March 13 RCS Board of Education meeting, the district recognized Reidsville High wrestling star Rayshun “R.J.” James, who won his second consecutive NCHSAA 2A state wrestling championship last month. After winning a North Carolina 2A state title in 2022 in the 120-pound weight class, James won this year’s 2A state title in the 126-pound weight class. And he’s got one more year remaining at Reidsville High in 2023-24 to go after a third straight state championship! Congratulations R.J.!
Congratulations to the Reidsville Rams boys basketball team for an incredible 2022-23 season. The Rams went 26-1, won the Mid-State Conference regular season and tournament titles, and earned the NCHSAA 2A West Regional title, advancing all the way to the NCHSAA 2A state championship game. Although the Rams came up short against Farmville Central in Chapel Hill’s Dean Smith Center, the Rams brought tremendous pride to Reidsville, RCS, and all of Rockingham County! Congrats for a magical season!
Shout Out to Reidsville High School eleventh grader Jaret Bahena Mingo, who played the National Anthem for most of RHS’s basketball home games throughout this year’s magical season! You did a fantastic job each and every time!

Rockingham County Middle School

Congratulations to the Advanced Band of Rockingham County Middle School for earning a superior at festival (MPA) today at Northwest Guilford High School! They worked hard to achieve this, and RCS is so grateful for all of their hard work that made this possible! Special thanks to Mr. Tony Cook and Ms. Brittney Carter for driving the buses; Dr. Elaine Smith, our chorus teacher, for coming to help; Mr. Jule McMichael for hauling the trailer; Mr. Eli Wright, our high school band director, for loaning us his trailer, coming early to unlock the trailer and loaning us a saxophone harness; and Mrs. Sandy Fabian for getting the keys to our bus drivers. On to Carowinds next week!

Rockingham County High School
Mrs. Belcher got to take HSII Honors class with other county high school students throughout RCS to Rockingham Community College’s simulation hospital! They learned so much and had a blast!
The Rockingham County High men's varsity tennis team celebrated their recent victory over Ben L. Smith High School with dinner and the opportunity to meet N.C. State’s Cheerleaders!
Mr. Hardin and Mrs. Goot's classes made pizza for Pi Day!

Mrs. Barham and the Rockingham County High School Musical Theatre Class performed Matilda Jr. The Musical by Roald Dahl March 9th and 10th at the RCHS Auditorium!
AFJROTC Cadets from Rockingham County High School went to Winston-Salem's Smith Reynolds Airport, and were provided the opportunity to go up in an airplane and fly around for several minutes! One Airplane was a Cessna and the other was a Piper.
Rockingham Early College High School
Rockingham County Schools was proud to host its annual High School Battle of the Books competition Monday, March 6 on the campus of Rockingham Community College. Congratulations to all those who participated, and a special congrats to RCS 2023 High School Battle of the Books champion Rockingham Early College High School!
Western Rockingham Middle School
Western Rockingham Middle School represented Rockingham County Schools last week at the PTEC Signature Breakfast! WRMS was honored as a Signature School by the Piedmont Triad Education Consortium. Thank you to our students, staff, families and the community for helping WRMS be a great place to learn!
Rockingham County Schools
RCS’s Exceptional Children's Department presented at the American Council for Rural Special Education Annual Conference in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania March 8-11, 2023. They did an amazing job and the district is so proud of them! Director of Exceptional Children (Dr. Pam Watkins), Jennifer Hankins (EC Specialist), Victoria Cross (EC Specialist), Nickie Freeman-Winters (EC Specialist) presented, and the title of the presentation was Special Education Compliance: A Rural School District's Remodel for Today's Practices. The session detailed tools developed by the team for rural school districts for monitoring and increasing special education compliance for service delivery, federal indicators (referrals, eligibility timelines, least restrictive environments, etc) and classroom use of evidence- based practices for students with special needs! Thanks for representing RCS on the national level!
RCS is so proud of our amazing students and teachers, and everything they achieve each and every day in the classroom! Friday night was a special night for the district, as Morehead High School hosted the Elementary All-County Choral Festival, along with a student Art Show! Rockingham County School’s Nutrition Staff participated in National School Breakfast Week March 6-10! School Nutrition staff celebrated to recognize the importance of a nutritious school breakfast, fueling students for academic success!
On February 16, approximately 170 students from Rockingham County public high schools spent time in the Simulated Hospital on the campus of Rockingham Community College. They received hands-on instruction from RCC students and faculty in various health science program areas. The Simulated Hospital houses curriculum programs such as EMS, Nursing, Respiratory Therapy, and Surgical Technology. It is also the training ground for non-credit health science programs such as EMT, Paramedic, Nurse Aide, Medication Aide, Pharmacy Technician, Central Sterile Processing, EKG Technician, Dialysis Technician, Medical Assisting, and the brand new Psychiatric Technician!

Volunteers were everywhere at the Reading Bug event, which was held this past weekend! The Reading Bug is such a successful way to engage with families and begin the journey of early learning and accessing the written word! Instructional Support Services shined as they spoke with young children and families! Rockingham County Schools Early Learning Head Start Program was represented by several fine early learning educators!
The Greensboro Symphony engaged RCS’s third and fourth graders at the annual Educational Concert. It was an amazing performance!
It was very exciting for Dillard Academy and Stoneville Elementary School to learn about Piedmont Legacy Trails! Thank you for Rockingham Education Foundation for your support! We are ready to trailblaze for Rockingham County Schools!
Prior to the March 13 RCS Board of Education meeting, a special ceremony was held at Central Office for two longtime district leaders who are leaving RCS - Coach Jimmy Teague of Reidsville High School, and Dr. Stephanie Ellis of RCS Instructional Support Services. Coach Teague is heading into a well-earned retirement after eight state championships at RHS, while Dr. Ellis is moving on to a new position with Person County Schools in Roxboro, N.C.. In addition, both Coach Teague and Dr. Ellis were individually recognized by the Board at the start of the March 13 meeting. Both will be greatly missed, and we wish each of them all the best in the future!
