This fall our focus will be looking at Best Practices within our District at the elementary level. This winter we will focus on our middle schools and in the spring we will highlight our high schools. Be sure to email Jennifer Villines with any PBIS celebrations you'd like to see.
The 2 x 10 strategy: a miraculous solution for behavior issues?
Spend 2 minutes per day for 10 days in a row talking with an at-risk student about anything she or he wants to talk about.
Read more about this strategy from The Cornerstone.
Celebrating Good Character
Lake Pointe Elementary rewards their students with Owl Bucks to spend on a cart full of FUN! Each classroom has unique needs so the cart is mobile to fit the frequency needs determined by the teacher. The first few weeks of school are opportunities to affirm appropriate behavior for meeting the campus' high expectations. This also sets a "precedence" for year-long behavior routines. Principal Barberee believes that her teachers have open and consistent communication with parents, which creates a partnership.
Chisholm Ridge Elementary showcases one student from each classroom for demonstrating good character traits. The teacher composes specific commentary as to "why" the student was selected for this honor. The photos stay up until the end of the year and then go home with students.

Positive Rewards for Positive Learning Environments!
The discipline data as a district for the first six weeks shows that PBIS continues to make a difference within our learning environments. The first six weeks of 2014-2015 showed a decrease of 21% of office referrals during the same timeframe for the 2013-2014 school year. Bus conduct referrals are down 68% during the first six weeks as compared with the same time period last year.
Congratulations to the following schools for having a positive PBIS learning environment.
