Reflection Corner: Advent Moment of Mercy

On December 8, 2015, Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception, Pope Francis opened the doors of St. Peter’s Basilica to proclaim the beginning of the Jubilee of Mercy. He is calling all Catholics to reflect on the mercy of God. Pope Francis wants us all to remember that we receive God’s mercy as a gift of grace. We thank God in our own merciful thoughts, words and actions toward others.

Prayer: Lord, as we continue our Advent Journey, help us recognize your merciful love through your grace.

Our OLM kids are indeed eager to receive God’s mercy as they approach God in this beautiful Sacrament being offered to them during Advent Season. Parents who wish to join the penitential prayer service of their children and have confession are also welcome to join! Please be guided by the schedule below.

Simbang Gabi 2015

Simbang Gabi is a devotional nine-day series of masses practiced by Roman Catholics in the Philippines in anticipation of Christmas and to honor the Blessed Virgin Mary. This tradition has been at our parish for some years already. We begin Simbang Gabi at Our Lady of Mercy at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 15th. Our school has always sponsored the first night of the novena masses. You are all invited to come and attend the said mass with the OLM Family. Those intending to donate food for the after-mass fellowship should contact and coordinate with our Parent Teacher Organization. We hope to see you then.

Monday is Early Release Day

This is just a reminder. Monday, December 14, is an early release day. Students will be dismissed at 12:00 noon to provide our teachers time for professional development. Please be guided accordingly.

Gift of Music Concert

Our school community was treated to an early Christmas gift by way of a free concert by the Saringhimig Singers with the special participation of the OLM Children's Choir, Charles Nicholson, and Leilani Zaragoza. Special selections were prepared by the Saringhimig including songs of the season, Christmas. The OLM Children's choir, Charles, and Leilani presented beautiful renditions of their selected songs as well. The finale number, Let There be Peace, which featured all artists, was indeed heart-warming and inspiring.

Thank you to everyone who came and watched the concert . We hope that you enjoyed our special gift to all of you.

Repost: 60th Anniversary Coffee Table Book

To commemorate the school's 60th anniversary, we are producing a coffee table book, "The Gift of Our Lady of Mercy School." A must-have book for all OLM alumni, students, family, friends, supporters, it hopes to bring all of us down memory lane as each page provides us glimpses of the sixty wonderful years of our school. Special thanks go to the project committee members: Arlene Fife, Jean Anderson, Janti Sommer, and Greg Rougley.

You should have received a letter with an attached solicitation form and letter for your contacts (family and friends) from the office. A soft copy of the documents will be posted on our website and a link will be added to this Parent Bulletin entry shortly. We are requesting that you let people know and get them to contribute to our project. We thank you, advance, for your support.
