Dot Day!

We had so much fun reading the book, "The Dot" by: Peter H. Reynolds. The significance of this book and the activities that we completed were to show the students that they can {Make their Mark}.

What we are learning about:

Reading

In reading workshop we are working on the 5 w's. At home, make sure you ask your child about the who, what, when, where, and why of the stories they read to you.

Your child should be bringing home a guided reading book each night. Please make sure they read this book to you and work on any homework I may have given them during their group.

Math

This week we are beginning a new unit on shapes. Students must be able to identify and draw the following shapes:

rectanges

squares

trapezoids

triangles

cones

cylinders

rectangular prism

cubes

We will also be working on doubles facts. Your child will be getting a set of flashcards tomorrow that they will need to study each night. Throughout the year your child will receive many different sets of flashcards. We are working on developing fundamental math skills that will help them become the best mathematicians they can be. Please make sure to talk to them about the importance of keeping up with their flashcards and continuing to review them all year.

Science

For the rest of the 9 weeks we will be studying changes.

The standards are listed below:

Standard 2-4: The student will demonstrate an understanding of the properties of matter and the changes that matter undergoes. (Physical Science)
