NOVEMBER 9, 2022 - NEWSLETTER
Dear Lighthouse families,
It is starting to feel more and more wintery, especially with Daylight Savings Time. Soon, we’ll be digging out the winter gear.
It’s been a busy and fun start to the school year. We’re now well into our routines of this school year with only a few weeks to go in this first trimester. It’s fun to see the leaps in learning at this point in the year, and I am looking forward to seeing the inquiry projects that students are working on!
Spring Lake Park Schools will be hosting Tour and Talk events at our K-4 elementary schools and Spring Lake Park High School at the end of the month. We welcome any families with children who will be entering preschool and kindergarten or exploring high school options to come and visit. Learn more and share Tour and Talk information with anyone who may be interested. I’m also always happy to talk with families who may be interested in Lighthouse.
Remember that we have Extended Learning Day this Friday, November 11. These days are designed for students to do work related to their inquiry project which cannot easily be done in the classroom such as library research, talking with an expert, conducting experiments, or a field trip.
Stay warm, and have a great week!
With Gratitude,
Lisa Cisewski
Gifted Resources
Gifted Students vary in their abilities and often their patterns of growth differ from peers the same age. Read more about asynchronous development with this article from the National Association for Gifted Children.
Flu alert
Flu season is here. Along with the rest of Minnesota, Spring Lake Park Schools is experiencing an increase in flu and flu-like illness. Please help keep our community healthy. Continue to practice good hand hygiene and keep your student home when they are sick.
Support during upcoming holidays
It's that time of year when a variety of different holidays are approaching. If you celebrate Thanksgiving or Christmas and need some extra support during this upcoming season, there may be programs within our district or local community where we can connect families. Please reach out to Whitney Booth, the Social Worker & Community Resource Liaison at SLPHS 763-600-5227 for more information.
Advance notice: Expect notifications for negative meal account balances
With meals no longer free this school year, families whose student's meal account balance is negative $5 and below will begin receiving weekly notifications. Starting this evening, notifications will be sent by email and text message each Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
To find directions on how to add funds to your student's account, visit the nutrition services webpage. For any questions, please reach out to Jane Sweney at JSwene@district16.org or 763-600-5041.
Berkeley Math Tournament
Sam Kretzschmar was chosen to participate in the Berkeley Math Tournament in California on November 5 with the MN All State Math Team. Sam received Honorable Mention for his Geometry score! Great job Sam!
Lighthouse Students Run The Mile!
Lighthouse students ran the mile for phy-ed class last Friday. Ms. Cisewski even joined the run! Students should be so proud of this accomplishment. Way to go!
