The Spencer Scoop
Spencer Elementary September 16, 2022
Dear Spencer Families,
It was great to see so many families last night at our Curriculum Night. If you were unable to attend, please feel free to reach out to your child's teacher with questions at any time. Our goal is always to keep parents informed and maintain an open line of communication. It is going to be a beautiful weekend, I hope everyone finds time to slow down and enjoy it!
Take care,
Danielle Schmidt
COVID-19 School Guidance
Keep students home when they are sick.
- If your student does test positive for COVID-19, report the student’s illness to the school.
- Also report the student’s illness to LCHD using the COVID-19 Self-Reporting Form for Students and School Staff

Extra Change of Clothes
Parents - PLEASE pack a change of clothes in your child's backpack EVERY DAY. This is for ALL grades, you never know when your student may have a nosebleed, or loose a tooth, or spill food on their shirt, or find a mud puddle outside, or have an accident. We have already had to contact quite a few families to come up with a change of clothing. If your student keeps a change of clothes in their backpack, then we can take care of it here, otherwise we will need you to bring up a change of clothing. Thank you for your cooperation.

Lunch Volunteer Opportunities for September
If you are interested and available to volunteer at Spencer any weekday from 11:35 AM until 2:25 PM please visit our September Sign Up Genius. This helps us get things rolling in the cafeteria during the first month of school. We appreciate your help! You will find the link by clicking HERE. Please note that ANY VOLUNTEER MUST HAVE A COMPLETED BACKGROUND CHECK, which can be found on the district webpage. This process does take several days, so please submit as soon as possible if you wish to volunteer during the month of September.
Welcome back to another amazing year here at Spencer Elementary. I am so excited to begin working with students this year to help facilitate and promote social-emotional growth and learning! I will be providing classroom lessons, small group activities, and individual support this year.
As a reminder, your school counselor is here to support children with social-emotional concerns that are impacting their success in the classroom. We will begin working with individuals as needs arise within the months of September and October. I look forward to offering small peer groups in October. If your child is struggling at school, we will work together with the classroom teacher to determine whether or not school-based services would be beneficial. We may also be able to offer resources or contacts if your family believes that outside support is an option.
The Elementary Counselor Team also has the BAS Elementary Counseling website for ideas and resources to be used at home! Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns that you may have, and I will do my best to support your child.

PTO News
Your 2022/23 PTO Board is:
President: Jen Lumsden
Vice President: Nicole McGhee
Treasurer: Anna Gibson
Co-Secretary: Jacquelyn Turkovich
Co-Secretary: Amber Gaines
Each year, the PTO chooses a theme to carry throughout the year. This year's theme is "Roadrunners Care". We have big plans for getting the kids involved in community outreach for different organizations throughout the year. Our very first endeavor is to show our very own Spencer Staff how much we care by fulfilling Wish List items for them! Please take a look at the sign-up genius here for the 2022 Staff Wish Lists!
T-Shirt order forms should have gone home last week. If you did not receive one, or have misplaced it, we have attached a copy here. We have also included an online ordering option this year! Just scan the QR code on the order form or click this link and you will be there! We are asking for a $7.00 donation per shirt this year to cover costs. Please note: all students will receive a shirt, regardless of their ability to pay, but we do ask that you still send in the order form so we can get them the appropriate size! All shirt orders must be received no later than September 21st!
Join us! September 21st from 5:30-7:00 pm for Popsicles on the Playground! This will just be a casual welcome back event for kids and parents alike to catch up with those they've missed over the summer. The PTO will have popsicles and music. We will have a PTO table where you can get more information from us as well as representatives from both Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts. We hope to see you there!
Passive fundraising is one of our favorite things to do! Why not earn money while doing things you were going to do anyway? Here are links to a few of the easiest options for us:
Kroger Community Rewards : Choose Spencer Elementary PTO
Amazon Smile : Choose Spencer Elementary PTO as your charity
Box Tops for Education : Choose Spencer Road Elementary School
Shutterfly : Order photo prints or gifts using this storefront link and we automatically make a percentage back
Dine Out Nights: Several times throughout the year, we will arrange dine out nights with local restaurants. All you have to do is choose to dine out at the chosen restaurant in the given window of time and we will earn a percentage back. Each restaurant is slightly different, so we will provide all the details you need leading up to the event. Our first dine out night will be September 28th from 4-8pm at McDonald's (Lee Road location only!) This year, as part of our budget, we have decided to allocate a dine out night to each of the 4 Specials Teachers (Art, PE, STEAM, Music) for purchase of classroom supplies and materials, as well as one to the 4th Grade Farewell. The first dine out night will just go to general funds. We will let you know what each of the future ones will be assigned to when we announce them.
And finally - we need you!!! The PTO hosts free family events nearly every month, but we need your help! If you are interested in helping to organize an event, please check out the signup genius here!
Upcoming Events:
9/21 - Popsicles on the Playground 5:30-7:00
