Where Everyone Can Succeed
From Mr Khay
Dear Glendore Public School Community,
- Thank you again for all you are doing and I do wish you the best and deepest rest possible over the next two weeks and Semester Two.
- This week has seen many community-focused events, including NAIDOC, our amazing K-6 Athletics Carnival at the new Maitland Regional Athletics Centre, Pre-Sch Links meetings for Kindergarten 2023 enrolments - call our office now!
- Over the past fortnight, Mrs White, Miss Lewis, Mrs Lord, Ms Deegenaars and the School Executive and I have held planning sessions to ensure we have all our planning in place for Semester Two.
- Buildings and Facilities Update:
- Our third staff Professional Learning space, the Library Staff Hub should be online from the beginning of Semester Two. Its nine workstations will significantly enhance our staff's ability to focus on enhancing learning, teaching and wellbeing.
- The State-Significant tender and evaluation process for our OOSH Contract over 2022-2030 has been completed – expect an announcement mid-Term 3 from School Infrastructure NSW (SINSW) to our school community.
- The State-Significant tender and awarding of building contract for our $1.2M Playground and $200,000 Front-of-House upgrades have been completed – SINSW will be doing an update meeting with myself and Mrs White in this break. We expect the site establishment to occur over mid-late Term Three, with the actual build occupying the latter third of 2022 for a January 2023 completion.
- Our Library, will fully-transform into a 6-room facility with scaled power supply over Term Four, 22. The full Library Learning Centre will have a sound-proof, Library Tech Lab, a Year 3-6 Research Space (bookable for K-2 as well), a K-2 Library Atrium (junior fiction), alongside the existing Library Tutorial Room, Library Office, Library Staff Hub. This project will have its design start this holidays, again with SINSW. In the interim, your leaders will be working hard to bring the facility back online for Term 3 student usage.
- New Tall Hall (OOSH Hub) and Main Hall AV – Quotes are being finalised for the new light projection and audio systems within both halls – the first installation will be a new multitouch screen at the side of the Tall Hall. New Advanced Desktops have been ordered to drive the new AV and Light Projection equipment.
- We are investigating a VOIP Telephony upgrade that will increase the number of phone lines in and out at peak times for improved parent, caregiver, staff communication and collaboration. Our school has recently completed an Internet speed uplift and will soon undertake and internal Wi-Fi Upgrade.
- Staffing News:
- My absolute best to all of the staff for Semester Two, whilst I undertake my secondment – Your children are in very caring and capable hands, and they all have student wellbeing at their hearts.
- Please reach out to your Classroom Teacher or Assistant Principal via our Admin Team, so that Glendore can be that school that best supports you.
- Congratulations to Rachean Boyce, who has been successful in a permanent move to Student Wellbeing – Learning Wellbeing Officer role (AP level) – Mrs White will advise you when and how we can fill this 1.0 AP position.
- You may have seen other schools advertising AP C&I positions over T4-21 and Semester One-22. Glendore is in the final phase of school rollouts. Mrs White and I have been in regular conversations with the HR Recruitment Team over June. She will brief you next Semester as soon as we have final advice from the HR AP C&I Team.
- We will be moving to fill three permanent teaching positions over Semester Two for the start of 2023. Mrs White will again advise the school community how these are progressing
I look forward to being an advocate for you all with the NSW Curriculum Rollout, and to catching up with you at Glendore celebrations in Semester Two. You are in good hands - take care and see you soon:-)

Thanks in advance for understanding!
5B - Mr Booth
- We are pleased to confirm that Miss Jessica Coverdale has been selected to teach 5B for the duration of Mr Booth’s planned leave in Term 3. Miss Coverdale comes highly recommended from her current school.
- During Mr Booth’s leave in Term 3, Miss Coverdale will continue to follow the Year 5 teaching program, as laid out jointly by Mr Booth and Mrs Budd.
- Semester 1 Academic reports have been published to the Sentral Parent Portal this week. To access reports parents will need to have created an account.
- The portal can also be accessed from an app you can down load to your phone.
- Please make sure your app is updated and your notifications are switched on.
- In Term 3, afternoon supervision of students at ‘The Block’ (area outside Glendore Childcare Centre) will no longer occur.
- Teachers will supervise students who have previously used ‘The Block’ in the ‘Commons’ area.
- Parents/Caregivers are able to access the Commons from 2.30pm daily. Signing in is not required.
- Every five weeks, Glendore Public School is required to notify Parents/Caregivers if a child's attendance rate falls below 85%.
- We do understand that children may have leave for many reasons e.g. illness, family holidays.
- The School is required to bring this leave information to your attention regardless of the reasons for non-attendance as part of the NSW Department of Education's Attendance Policies.
- The attendance rate includes pre-advised and explained absences for holiday/illness during school terms.
- Students whose attendance is below 85% will receive attendance letters this week.
- The Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD) takes place every year. A student is counted in the NCCD if they receive reasonable adjustments at school due to disability. This includes students with an Adjustment Plan or Personalised Learning Support Plan (PLSP).
- The NCCD is a collection that counts:
- the number of school students receiving an adjustment or ‘help’ due to disability.
- the level of adjustment they are receiving to access education on the same basis as other students.
- Each year, schools collect the following information about the student, including:
- their year of schooling
- the level of adjustment received
- the broad type of disability.
- We are currently completing our 2022 NCCD survey. Please contact your child’s class teacher if you have any questions.
- The Hunter Inter-Schools Primary Public Speaking Competition will be conducted in 2022.
- The competition includes students from Early Stage 1, Stage 1, Stage 2 and Stage 3 levels.
- Over the past few weeks, GPS students from K-6 have been participating in in-class speaking and listening assessments.
- From these presentations, two students from each class have been selected by the classroom teacher to participate in a stage level public speaking competition at GPS early in Term 3. The dates and times are as follows.
- Kindergarten - Wednesday 20th July at 9:00am
- Stage 1 - Thursday 21st July at 9:00am
- Stage 2 - Wednesday 20th July at 11:40am
- Stage 3 - Thursday 21st July at 11:40am
- Parents/Caregivers of students who are presenting speeches are welcome to attend.
- From this, two students from each stage will be selected to represent Glendore Public School at selected venues across the Hunter.
- Kindergarten students will be celebrating their 101 days of learning on 28th July.
- There will be fun classroom activities on this day including lots of counting and games.
- Students are invited to dress up as a dalmatian on the day.
- Glendore PS will be celebrating Book Week in Week 5, Term 3.
- The 2022 Book Week theme is “Dreaming with Eyes Open...”.

- Children are encouraged to dress up as their favourite book character for the parade.
- Well respected Australian Author Belinda Murrell will be visiting the school on Thursday 18th August to talk to students about her passion for books and writing.
- NAIDOC stands for National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee. It aims to increase awareness in the wider community of the status and treatment of First Nation Australians.
- NAIDOC Week is held in the second full week of July. This will be in the holidays.
- It is a time to celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history, culture and achievements and is an opportunity to recognise the contributions that Indigenous Australians make to our country and our society.
- This week, we held our NAIDOC Week Gathering for the start of our 2022 NAIDOC Week celebrations.
- We had the privilege of watching performances by our Cultural Group and Boys Yarning Group accompanied by the very talented special guest Jake who was on the didgeridoo led by Miss Long, Mr Cousins and Mr Ashton.
- Our Junior AECG Executive Members were also acknowledged and presented with their badges. In 2021 Mrs Garnsey, Mr Cousins and Mrs Budd have worked with the LAECG to establish a Junior AECG.
- The Junior AECG is overseen by our local AECG. It is a student led group that meets twice a term to discuss Aboriginal Education matters and also to help plan for important events, such as NAIDOC Week. The Junior AECG meetings allow students to have a student voice within our school. They get to have their ideas and opinions heard, as well as building positive relationships with teachers and peers!
- We had Mr Sagigi who is from the Western Islands of the Torres Strait and doing a teaching placement on KC share some of his language and culture with us.
- We congratulated the K-6 Coloring Competition winners with certificates and prizes from Simone Jordan at Awabakal Limited.
- We acknowledged our school NAIDOC Week gathering invitation and our Colouring Competition winners' certificates featuring an artwork ‘Reach for the Stars’ designed by Mrs Patterson and painted by the students in 1P.
- This painting represents our school community. We come from all walks of life. We come to school to learn in a supportive, caring environment, where students are guided to reach for the stars. The totems represent friendship, guidance, determination, knowledge and learning. Every student can succeed and achieve their goals.
- Many thanks to the AET Team, staff, special guests, family and community members for joining us this week for our 2022 NAIDOC Celebrations.
- Stage 2 students had a great time learning about the past last at Tocal last week.
- Students played games, learnt about how a farm operated, washed and dressed up in olden day clothes and enjoyed a wonderful day in the sunshine.

- Students explored the education and career possibilities relating to various faculty experiences.
- They were treated to presentations and activities organised by staff from the faculties of Law, Marketing and Music.
- Representatives from the University Library, Greater Bank and the Newcastle Art Gallery also provided students with an insight into their role at the Newcastle University.
- This experiences gave students with valuable educational hours to add to their passport.
- Thank you to our Glendore community for coming to our K-6 Athletics Carnival in Maitland. It was a great success and looked like everyone enjoyed themselves.
- A BIG THANK YOU to Casey Sherry who was our photographer for the day. Photos will be posted on Facebook in coming days.
- We are finalising our team to take to the Zone Athletics Carnival, which will be held in Week 3 of Term 3. Students and parents will be notified if they have made it to Zone in Week 1 of next term via School Bytes.

- Thank you to our volunteers for running and organising the canteen for the day, it was a great to have warm food on chilly winter's day.
- On Thursday, 23rd June, over 60 students from Yrs 4-6 participated in the RoboCup Junior Introductory Workshop.
- The Workshop was delivered by the University of Newcastle's SMART Program, in partnership with RoboCup Junior Hunter.
