BALDWIN BLAST
September 28, 2020
Dear Families,
As we close the door on September 2020, I am so proud of what we have accomplished together during the first weeks of distance learning. I know that there have been some challenges, stress, and changes to our expectations of what school looks like for students, teachers, and families – but as a community, we have come together to make the best of this situation. I appreciate your continued feedback, patience, and engagement. Adjusting to this new reality, even temporarily, has been hard and we have all been impacted by COVID-19 in ways we could not have predicted. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if I can help in any way. I’m here to help.
Respectfully,
Mrs. Goldzung
Teaching and Learning in the Virtual Space
Grades and Assessment During Distance Learning... How do we know what they know?
- Keep the student camera on
- Have the school supplies ready for use - especially the whiteboard and marker.
- The whiteboard is actually a piece of white paper in a plastic sleeve. (Tip: An old sock makes a great eraser!)
- Encourage your child to ask and answer questions
- Provide time and space to complete and submit work that is assigned in Schoology
If you are experiencing technical difficulties, please submit a tech ticket through the Baldwin website or Click Here to Submit a Tech Ticket

Project Lead The Way
We are excited to share that we will be offering PLTW this year through our distance learning, virtual platform. We are reinventing our modules and resources to provide a unique, hands-on experience that will enable students to continue developing the knowledge, skills, and objectives found in our existing curriculum while helping them to achieve their educational milestones despite changes in their learning environment.
We are starting PLTW modules soon!!
Kindergarten and Fourth Grade will be starting their modules soon. First and Second grades start in November, and Third Grade starts in December. More information will be coming for those grades at a later date. Kindergarten starts their module on Oct. 12th and Fourth Grade starts their module on Oct. 19th. In order for students to participate in PLTW effectively, we will have materials for pick up at Baldwin. We are offering multiple days and times for distribution.

October is National Bully Prevention Month
October is National Bullying Prevention Month, so all students will be receiving counseling lessons this month on what bullying is, how to recognize it, and how to prevent it. Bullying is defined as “unwanted, aggressive behavior among school-aged children that involves a real or perceived power imbalance. The behavior is repeated, or has the potential to be repeated, over time.”
- Kindergarten students will learn about being a bucket filler and how to tell the difference between bucket filling and bucket dipping.
- 1st and 2nd-grade students will learn the difference between rude, mean, and bullying behaviors.
- 3rd and 4th-grade students will learn about the difference between being an upstander and a bystander and will be prompted to each come up with one way they will be an upstander.
- All students will also learn about the schoolwide strategy “Stop Walk Talk” to be used to stop mean or bullying behavior, how to report bullying, and how to be a good digital citizen while learning about cyberbullying.
Here are some online resources to aid in your discussion with your child about bullying prevention:
Please reach out to your school counselors if you would like more information about bullying prevention or resources and activities used in counseling lessons.
