Principal's Message
Dear Oak Hills Families,
It is with mixed emotions that I am announcing my retirement at the end of the 2020-2021 school year. It has been an absolute honor to serve at Oak Hills Elementary School for the last five years. This is the kindest and most supportive school community I know. My teachers are warm, relationship oriented and extremely strong instructional leaders. My instructional assistants, custodians, secretaries, and kitchen crew are all about supporting our students and staff so they can focus on teaching and learning. Our students are loving little human beings who are also dedicated learners with a growth mindset. This school has been a dream come true. Thank you for the opportunity to be a part of this amazing place.
I have worked for the Beaverton School District for 32 years. I have always believed that change is good and I have looked for opportunities and positions to help me grow as an educator. During my tenure, I have been both an elementary teacher and a high school Japanese teacher. I have also served as a District Mentor for beginning teachers, University Supervisor for student teachers, Assistant Principal and Principal. As an administrator, I have served at Five Oaks, International School of Beaverton, Scholls Heights and Oak Hills. Although, it was a true honor to open the International School of Beaverton, my favorite school has been Oak Hills. I have absolutely loved being a part of this community.
Sometime in the spring, our Human Resources Department will ask for both community and staff input in selecting the next Principal for Oak Hills. Parents and staff will also be included in the Principal interviews. I am anticipating that we will have many qualified and phenomenal applicants looking to join the Oak Hills community. I will keep you posted on the process. Once the Principal is selected, you will have an opportunity to meet him/her and I will be available through the end of June to assist with the transition process.
Thank you again for the opportunity to serve at Oak Hills. I will continue working hard to support all of you for the remainder of my assignment.
Warmly,
Sheila Baumgardner

Oak Hills Food Drive- last day is the 16th
During the month of December, Oak Hills will host an annual Food Drive for the Sunshine Pantry! The Sunshine Pantry is a local organization, supporting Washington County families (500+ monthly) with food, toiletries, and clothing.
We will be accepting donations on Wednesdays (12/9 & 12/16) during Oak Hills School Supply/Book Pick Up (via the Oak Hills bus lane) and at the Oak Hills Book Bus stops.
PLEASE CHECK EXPIRATION DATES: Oregon Agriculture Department requires all food collected to be within the labeled expiration date. Approximately 30-40% of foods collected by local food pantries previously had to be disposed of because it was expired. During inspections, if food pantries are found to have 10 or more outdated items, they must close for a complete inventory. We ask that expiration dates are checked carefully. Thank you fo your help in keeping Sunshine Pantry open to serve the local community!
Most needed items include canned tuna, dried pasta or beans, and peanut butter. In addition to non-perishable food items, we can accept hams or turkeys for the holidays.
We will be hosting a friendly competition between our primary grade levels (grades K-2/Primary ALC) and our intermediate grade levels (grades 3-5/Intermediate ALC). When dropping off items, please indicate which grade levels you would like your donation to support!
Canned Food Tally so far: K/1/2 = 264 cans 3/4/5 = 236 cans

Thank you for your desire to share your thanks and appreciation! Likewise, we would like to extend our deepest appreciation to YOU for partnering with us this year under challenging circumstances. YOU are going above and beyond, as parents, grandparents, neighbors, and care providers, in order to ensure our students at Oak HIlls are engaged in learning each day to the greatest extent possible. We can't thank you enough for your time, your care for our students, and the support for our work as educators!

Immunization Exclusion Day Information
The Immunization Exclusion Day for 2020-21 is scheduled for February 17, 2021.
All children who are not up to date with their immunizations will be excluded from being physically in the building.
We know that with the COVID-19 protocols in place, getting your child/children up to date with their immunizations may require some advanced planning. You may even be hesitant to go to a doctor's office. We, also, know that with the current distant learning your student is not physically in the building. We do want you to know that when public schools return to in school learning at any capacity and if your child/children are not current with their immunizations they will not be able to be physically in the building.
When this happens, you would have several options available to you:
- become current with immunizations.
- remain in CDL.
- notify us if you are exempt from the immunization schedule with an official document.
We'd like to make you aware that between now and exclusion day you will be receiving several communications from either us in the office, from the District, or from Washington County. If you are current and you still receive a notification, then please let us know so we can align our communication to better match your child's immunization records.

Snowflake Hunt
This month Beaverton Safe Routes to School invites your school community to go on a Snowflake Hunt! To participate make a snowflake and place it in a window facing the street and then go for a walk and count how many snowflakes you find. We hope this provides your family with a fun activity and a little encouragement to get outside for a walk or roll. Use the link below for a snowflake making tutorial and make sure your trip is counted in the following ways:
1. Send an email to bsdsaferoutes@gmail.com with the number of snowflakes you found. BSD students (or parents) please include how many students participated and what school they are from.
2. BSD elementary students can also log their miles on their Marathon Kids account. If you need information on how to set up a Marathon Kids account, contact your PE teacher.
3. Post a photo to social media with the following hashtags #BSDsaferoutes #BSDtogether #BSDmarathonkids
