Team Update - Mavericks:
The Maverick team has gotten off to a busy start this quarter. We just launched our fourth quarter incentive, and this time students will have the opportunity to earn positive recognition stamps for having class materials, displaying proper behavior, being on time to class, and turning in homework on time. The amount of stamps students earn will determine their level of involvement in the incentive reward activity. We are excited to provide students with more opportunities to be recognized for their hard work and adherence to the PRIDE characteristics.
PTA:
PTA Council's next Rockin’ at the Rec on April 8 will be "Bring a Friend" night. Every student in grades 6 through 8 may attend and bring a friend that is also in grades 6-8 from another city. Tickets will be sold for $5 on Thursday, April 7 from 6-8pm at the recreation center lobby area or for $10 at the door. Please remember the dress code will apply to all students attending the dance and the theme is NEON. Dance hours are from 6:30-9PM.
8th Grade to Washington, DC - 2016:
Washington DC informational packets will be available in the main office starting Monday April 11 for current 7th graders whose parents could not attend the information meeting on April 7.
SLO Testing:
Our Student Learning Objectives tests are scheduled for the week of April 11-15. A Student Learning Objective (SLO) is a measurable, long-term academic growth target that a teacher sets at the beginning of the year for all students or for subgroups of students. SLOs demonstrate a teacher’s impact on student learning within a given interval of instruction based upon baseline data gathered at the beginning of the course.
Spring State Tests:
Our State testing window is fast approaching. State tests tell us how well our students are growing in the knowledge and skills outlined in Ohio’s Learning Standards.
Our Spring Testing Dates are:
English/Language Arts - April 18 & 19
Math - April 20 & 21
Science - April 25 & 26
It is important that students receive plenty of sleep during the week and have a good breakfast on our testing days. It is also very important that students be in attendance and on time each day.
Families can help their student prepare for the Spring administration by visiting the Ohio Department of Education website and working through their Math and English - Language Arts practice tests. Access to the ODE practice tests can be found HERE!
School Fees:
All schools fees were due December 4. PASS accounts were locked for those accounts determined to be past due. Please check your account to insure you do not have an outstanding balance. School fees can be paid online by accessing our PayForIt link on the District's HOMEPAGE.
Please keep in mind that unpaid fees accumulate yearly. Accumulation of these fees may make payment difficult as your child advances. Beginning with the 2016-2017 school year, middle school parents will have the opportunity to self-select their child’s honors placement for Honors Language Arts, Honors Science, and/or Honors Social Studies.Teachers will continue to make recommendations and parents are urged to consider their child's test scores from Norm-Referenced Assessments such as the Iowa Test for Basic Skills. For Honors Math, students will be required to meet established criteria for placement based on the district's administered assessments.
SMS Frequently Asked Questions:
With many changes taking place for the upcoming school year, we know there will be many questions as to how the new school will look in regards to policies and procedures. In efforts to address these questions and provide answers to parents, we felt it advantageous to have all questions submitted in writing. By doing so, we can ensure that all parents receive the same information.
