Math Workshop Model
Staff this year at FLCS have worked on implementing a math workshop model into their daily instruction. The math workshop model is grounded in the belief that all learners' abilities to succeed in math if they are given the proper supports. Many of our math workshop models foll ow the work in the books Minds on Mathematics: Using Math Workshop to Develop Deep Understanding in Grades 4-8 by Wendy Ward Hoffer and Math Exchanges: Guiding Young Mathematicians in Small-Group Meetings by Kassia Omohundro Wedekind. In this approach to mathematics instruction, teachers able to provide both large group and small group instruction to meet the needs of all students'.

Instructional Improvement Target 2015-2016 School Year
In the Spring of 2015, the staff at Forest Lane began working on a schoolwide One-Page Instructional Improvement Target. This concept comes from Jim Knight in his book Unmistakable Impact and focuses staff on improvement in four general areas including community building, content planning, instruction, and assessment for learning. Below I have included the first part of our instructional improvement target focused on the topic of community building at FLCS.
Genius Hour Pilot at Forest Lane Community School 2015-2016 School Year
During the 2015-2016 school year several grades at Forest Lane Community School have begun implementing the concept of Genius Hour. The staff in these grades are allowing time for their students to explore areas of interest while connecting with experts in the field. Below I have attached a link to a Google Site created by a member of the Oshkosh Area School District who is currently implementing Genius at Oshkosh West High School. Genius Hour is a great time during the day where our students' are afforded the ability to take risks, expend effort, and display perseverance.
