This is a reminder that there will be NO SCHOOL on Monday, September 7th in observance of Labor Day.

Student Arrival and Dismissal Procedures - Safety

We have a large number of students who are arriving and dismissing through the car rider line this year. We encourage families to consider utilizing the bus transportation provided. If it is necessary to transport your child by car, please review our arrival/dismissal procedures including:


  1. Students may be released from cars beginning at 8:40 when a staff member signals arrival. To ensure student safety, do not release students prior to seeing a staff member at the door at 8:40 as there will not be staff available to supervise students until this time.

  2. Remain in the car line during arrival, release your child on the curb side of the car in front of the school doors, and do not pass cars releasing or waiting to release students.

  3. It is important to note that students who are not in their classroom at 8:55 are considered tardy.

  4. When picking your child up at dismissal, wait in the car line. Do not park and walk inside to get your child as we will not release those students until all cars have left the drive in front of the front door.


Thank you for your patience as the arrival and dismissal process will simply take longer with so many students moving through the front doors of the building. We appreciate you understanding that the safety of our students is our first priority.


Students are to be dropped off and picked up at the front drive by the school’s front doors. Please have your child exit from the passenger side of all vehicles. Students should stay in their seatbelts/safety seats until your vehicle has come to a complete stop and your child is ready to get out of the car. Please only dismiss and receive your child at the front of the school. Do not release students from the back of the line so they must walk past other cars releasing children. It is imperative cars remain in a single line along the curb. Please do not attempt to pass cars releasing student as this creates an unsafe situation for our children. Please use extreme caution in our parking lot and drive in the morning and afternoon as both are high-traffic times. Thank you for your part in keeping our children safe.

Sign In Procedures

As a reminder the sign in procedure at Harrison Parkway include signing your child in or out using a computer. If you are signing your child out of school, please have your driver's license with you, as you will need it to complete the sign-out process.

Attendance Line Voicemail

If your child will be absent from school, please call the HPE Attendance Line by 9:00 a.m. at 915-4210. If you know in advance that your child will be absent, you may call the attendance line's voicemail anytime and leave a message. If you know your student will be absent for more than two school days for any reason other than illness, we ask that you complete a Prearranged Absence Form (available in the HPE office) at least one week prior to the absence.


Student attendance at HPE is vitally important. Please make every attempt possible to plan appointments and vacations outside of school hours. Regular attendance improves student performance and is expected as an integral part of our state mandated School Improvement Plan.

Meet the Teacher

Tuesday, August 25th is Meet the Teacher Night for grades 1-4. We ask that only parents attend this event. The night will be divided into 2 sessions to accommodate families with more than one child at HPE. If you only have one child attending HPE, you need to attend only one session. Please report directly to your child's classroom upon arriving on Tuesday evening.


The times for these sessions are as follows:

HPE Cafeteria News

Welcome back to the HPE Café!


This year's menus for Breakfast and Lunch will be on Skyward under the Food Service tab. There you will also find the link to e-funds to pay online for student lunches. you may also set up e-mail alerts for your student's lunch accounts as we will not be sending home low balance notes. A link for Free/Reduced lunch and breakfast is available as well.


When sending money and checks in to school for your student, please use an envelope and mark it with your student's name (no nicknames, please), student ID number, and their teacher's name on the outside of the envelope. The cost of a student lunch is $2.40. Milk is $0.50. Please also write your student's ID number on the memo line of the check. Payments can also be made online thru Skyward as well.


As per HSE policy, a student that maintains a negative lunch balance will receive a debit lunch of PB&J (those with a peanut allergy will receive a turkey sandwich), raisins and milk.


If you are packing a lunch for your child, we do not allow soda or foods that need to be reheated.

Lunch with Students

This is a friendly reminder that parents can begin having lunch with their students after Labor Day.


Please remember that you must call the office at 915-4210 before 9:30 am the day of your visit (even if you plan to "just sit" with your student during lunch time). Also, you must have a background check on file with the school (including watching the anti-bullying video and completing the video survey). Due to limited space, we can only accommodate 10 parents each day.


You are welcome to order a school lunch, bring a sack lunch, or you can just sit and visit. Please do not bring fast food or soda, however. Per HSE Policy, pictures of students are not allowed to be taken in the cafeteria. Thank you for supporting these policies.

Book Rental

All book rental amounts have been applied and should be showing in Skyward under "Fee Management." Personal checks (separate checks for each child) should be made payable to HPE and can be sent to school with your child. Please put it in an envelope labeled "Book Rental" with your child's name, grade, teacher and the book rental amount. MasterCard and Visa payments can be made through the eFunds on-line payment system. If you go to our HPE website, you will see a link for eFunds under "Quick Links." Payments should be posted in Skyward within 10 business days. All book rental fees are due by Tuesday, September 15th.

Speech Language Corner

Welcome back! I will start the year off by completing speech and hearing screenings within the first two weeks of school. Hearing screenings will be conducted with all students in Kindergarten, grades 1 and 4, and all new students at HPE. If your child does not pass the pure tone hearing screening, you will be notified via a letter and a re-screening will take place in 2-4 weeks with follow-up correspondence.


Speech screening will be conducted with all students in Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grades, and all new students to HPE. Speech errors that are age appropriate will be documented, monitored and in some cases, packets will be sent home to practice speech error sounds. Non age appropriate speech errors may warrant speech therapy, thus you will be contacted to discuss program options.

Lost & Found

Harrison Parkway Elementary has a Lost & Found located outside of the Music Room for any lost items. If you child may have lost something at school, please check the Lost & Found. At the end of each month, we will be donating any leftover items to charities that serve people in need. Thank you!

Child Find Information

What to do if you suspect a disability/Child Find:

If your child is age 2 ½ through 21, attends any school within the Hamilton Southeastern Schools boundaries or you live in our community, and you suspect your child may have a disability, you should contact us for more information.


· For children at least two and a half years of age, but not yet age-eligible for kindergarten, you should contact the Early Childhood Assessment Team at Brooks School Elementary School, 915-4250.


· For students who are eligible for kindergarten through age 21, you should contact your child’s teacher, school counselor or building administrator to discuss your concerns and explore the steps to be taken. If your child is not enrolled in public school, you should contact the counselor or building administrator in the building your child would attend if enrolled.

Response-to-Instruction (RtI)

RtI is a general education initiative designed to provide high quality instruction and interventions matched to student needs, and using learning rate over time and level of performance to make important educational decisions. The RtI model is based on a three-tiered model of service delivery with a focus on early intervention and prevention of academic and behavioral concerns. Data collected during this process provides valuable information regarding students’ educational progress and response to interventions. Students who do not demonstrate a response to well-implemented, scientifically-based interventions at the Tier 3 level would be referred for an educational evaluation to determine eligibility for special education. RtI is a component of HSE’s Child Find Process.

HSE DI Open House

Not sure what DI is all about? Come talk to current DI team members, parents, and team managers to learn more about our Destination Imagination program at the HSE DI Open House. Discover the six different challenges, as well as see student made creations from past challenges.


Destination Imagination is a HSE district-wide academic team for students in grades 3-12. Destination ImagiNation encourages teamwork, builds problem solving skills, and enhances creativity. It is hands on, engaging, and a great learning experience. Teams of up to seven members work together from September through February to create a solution to a Team challenge. Challenges may have a theatrical, structural, improvisational, scientific, service learning or technical focus. In addition, teams learn to develop creative answers for an Instant Challenge portion of the competition, which requires quick thinking skills. In February, teams from throughout the region come together to compete. Students also have the opportunity to advance to state (March) and global competitions (May). This meeting is mandatory for all parents who have a child that wants to participate in HSE DI for 2015-2016. Student attendance is optional.

PTO NEWS

The HPE Spirit Wear sale will go on now through August 28th. An order form was sent home with each student this week. If you are interested in ordering Spirit Wear, please send in all order forms with payment by Friday, August 28, 2015. Checks can be made payable to Harrison Parkway PTO. The items make nice gift ideas and support HPE at the same time!


The first General PTO meeting of the school year will be on Tuesday, September 15th at 6:30 pm. The meeting will take place in the cafeteria and free child-care will be available in the gym. We hope to see you there!

Balance, Roll & Tumble with Fishers Parks & Recreation

Calling all parents, sign your little ones up for a program that helps them spend some of their extra energy! Preschool Tumbling is back and promises to teach your child new tumbling skills while they make new friends and gain independence. Children ages 3 through 6 will explore front/back and no handed rolls, bridges and many other new gymnastic skills. Due to the popularity of this program there are two sessions to choose from:

  • Session 1 takes place from 11:05 a.m. to noon at Billericay Park, beginning on September 1 and ending on September 22.

  • Session 2 takes place from 11:05 a.m. to noon at Billericay Park beginning on November 3 and ending on November 24.


Fishers Parks & Recreation strives to find diverse ways to aid your child’s development while they’re out having fun. Preschool Tumbling is a drop off program, which means that as your gymnast gains independence learning new skills, you parents are able to enjoy a few moments to yourself! Preschool Tumbling costs $36 for residents and $54 for nonresidents.

Registration can be completed online, so secure a spot on the beam today! As a reminder, children who complete this program can advance into Intermediate Preschool Tumbling to continue their tumbling education! See staff for details upon completion of the Preschool Tumbling program.

Swim Lessons at Fishers High School

Registration for Fall One swim lesson session is now available. Registration for Fall One will be available until Sunday September 13th. Welcome to the FAST Tigers Progressive Swim program. Lessons are for thirty minutes twice a week for three weeks Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday. Swim level determination and payment must be completed at the time of registration. To register go to www.fasttigers.com and click on the swim lesson tab. Registration is easy and all completed online. Sessions for Fall lessons will be available on the following dates. You must enroll separately for each session you want to attend. Travel Camp/Tryouts will be used to evaluate players on their basketball skills. The FHS

coaching staff will run the tryouts to help select the Travel Teams for the upcoming year.
