The Compass
Week of February 20, 2023
Navigation Notes
Greetings Westside Families! It was another exciting week for our Explorers. Just a reminder we DO have school tomorrow, Monday, Feb 20th as a hurricane make-up day.
On Friday, students brought home an "Intent Form" for the 23-24 school year with their interims. Please complete this and return to school so we can accurately begin projecting our needs for next year. This is NOT registration paperwork, and information about re-enrollment for next year will be coming in March along with new Kindergarten enrollment guidelines.
This is the LAST week to purchase our 2022-2023 Yearbook so don't miss out! Sale ends THIS Friday, Feb 24th. Please send cash or check (payable to Westside Elementary) to Mrs. Macgowan or Ms. Sepe (Cost is $30).
Our PTO will be meeting this Wednesday at 3:00pm in the Media Center. Any parent/guardian can join and offer input. We hope to see you there!
HUGE shout-out to our Odyssey of the Mind teams who took 1st and 3rd place in this weekend's competition and earned an invitation to the State event. Thank you to all the parents and families who have supported their child for practices and coming out to the event.
Our Penny War was a great success raising just over $800 to support our school. Fifth Grade had the most points and won the pizza party for the entire grade level. Thank you to all who donated!
The Movie Event hosted by the 4th grade Team was awesome! Students loved relaxing with friends to wind down from a busy week. Fourth grade will be using the money raised to help support their trip to St. Augustine.
Reminder of our updated Check-out Policy: the latest a student can be checked out by a legal guardian will be 1:45pm (M-Th) and 12:30pm (Fridays). Please plan accordingly. Parents arriving after 1:45pm will be asked to join our normal car loop line for dismissal. Additionally, if you are checking out your child during Activity, lunch or recess, they may not have access to their backpacks and other materials. Please check with your child's teacher and avoid these times.
As always, thank you for your support! Our office will be open Monday-Friday from 7:30AM-3:30PM. Please come on in if we can assist you in any way.

We had a good turnout for our Parent/Student Lunch Day last Friday! Thank you to the families who joined us and we look forward to seeing more of you this Friday.
At this time, we must follow the parameters listed below per BPS guidelines:
- This opportunity will only be available on Fridays.
- Only adults on the approved pick-up list for a child will be allowed to have lunch with students. You will need to present your photo ID at the front office and receive a visitor's tag. When done, you must sign out before leaving campus.
- A designated area will be provided for the adult and student.
- Adults will only be allowed to eat lunch with THEIR child and we request only two adults per child please.
- Adults who are not registered volunteers will be monitored by school staff at all times.
- Adults will be permitted to be on campus for lunch for their child's 30-minute lunch block (times listed at end of newsletter for all classes). Once your child's lunch is over, we kindly as you to sign out and exit campus. If you have multiple children and want to have lunch with all of them, you must wait for additional lunch times in the front office, glass booth, or your vehicle.
