Principal's Message
December, 2016
Dear Parents/Guardians:
The weather is (finally!) taking a turn for cold and it is hard to imagine that the first semester is winding down already. In the next few weeks the faculty will administer final examinations on our students, and I am confident that the students have been well-prepared. Please help and ensure that your student gets a good rest the night before their exams, eats a healthy breakfast the morning of their exams and has a positive attitude. Please also pay close attention to the Final Exam Schedule re-printed in this newsletter; if your student is a Freshman the schedule can be very different from what you were used to in junior high school!
We are getting deeper now into the Winter Sports season, with both Boys and Girls Basketball as well as Boys and Girls Soccer in full swing. Wrestling and Cheer are also competing, and our Tiger athletes have been busy and already successful this Winter Season.
Next month in January, our students will begin the Course Selection Process for the 2017-18 school year. Our Counseling Department will begin their task of advising all of our students as to the appropriate selection of courses to ensure both graduation from GHS as well as success in postsecondary education and/or training. Please stay tuned for information from our Counseling Department next month as we get closer to that time. It can be a challenging and exciting time for our students!
Thank you to all of the parents who have helped make this school year a success. Without your dedication to your student and their academic success, none would be possible. Our GHS parents work hard to make sure our students are prepared, they volunteer countless hours on campus and in booster clubs, and they attend events all over campus and the Valley. We appreciate you and all that you for our campus community!
Finally, I would like to take a moment and wish you and your family a warm and happy holiday season. I hope you get to spend time with those who are important to you, and I look forward to our spring semester! Take care and..
Go Tigers!
Sincerely,
Christopher Stroud
Principal

Letter recognizing the GHS Marching Band
November 9, 2016
Congratulations to your school and to your high school marching band. Last weekend at the Arizona Band and Orchestra Director’s Association (ABODA) State Marching Band Festival, your high school marching band participated and performed at an extremely high level. Due to their performance, they have been selected to participate in the Arizona State Marching Band Championship this weekend. Throughout the fall semester, bands have been participating in festival events across our great state in order to receive evaluation, critique, and improve their performance. Last Saturday was a huge stepping stone in that process, with over 90 bands participating in our ABODA State Marching Festival. To be selected for the finals this weekend is truly one of the highest honors that can be received of a marching band program in Arizona.
This honor is only extended to the top 10 marching bands in each competitive marching division in Arizona. It is a reflection of the dedication and hard work of your band director, their instructional staff, volunteer parents, administrative support, and most importantly, your students. There is some great teaching going on in your music department and your band students are working hard every day to represent your school community at a high and honorable level. Those band kids are pretty amazing.
We are excited to see the many fine performances that will be presented this Saturday at Glendale Community College for our state championship. I hope that your schedule will allow you to attend and support your band as they march in competition one last time this fall. Come and celebrate the passion, pride, and pageantry that high school marching band brings every day.
Thank you for your continued support of the arts on your campus and your support of the fine teachers that work with your students every day. I hope to see you there…enjoy the ride.
Bill Humbert
President
Arizona Band and Orchestra Director’s Association
