"But let us not put our sights too high. We do not have to be saviours of the world! We are simply human beings, enfolded in weakness and in hope, called together to change our world one heart at a time. (163)” ― Jean Vanier

EICS Assurance Surveys
On Wednesday November 22nd Elk Island Catholic Schools sent out an Assurance Survey to all parents. We would encourage all parents to take the time to fill the survey out, as this provides us with valuable data in developing our school's assurance plan, so that we can continue to make Jean Vanier Catholic School a great place for our students to be. Student and staff surveys will be conducted in early February.
Elk Island Catholic Schools Connection Project
The Connections Project is all about supporting positive mental health through building relationships. Dr. Jody Carrington reminds us how important it is to “light up” around our students, our colleagues and those we love. When we “light up” around someone by showing excitement when we see them and letting them know how important they are to us, we strengthen our connection.
Jody reminds us that “Somebody's got to be crazy about that kid. That's number one. First, last and always.” Urie Bronfenbrenner
At Jean Vanier Catholic School it has always been a priority to build those relationships with our student and the broader school community!
God Bless!
Keeping our school safe...Visiting the school
We are committed to ensuring a safe school for your children. Parents and visitors we ask you to please sign in at the office before walking the halls of the school. We ask, if you are volunteering or coming into the school for ANY reason, please sign in and let us know you are here in the building. Our responsibility in the office is knowing who is in the building at all times, especially in the case of emergency.

HOLODOMOR AWARENESS
This Saturday is Holodomor Remembrance Day, when Albertans remember a horrific period in Ukrainian history. Holodomor refers to the famine-genocide of Ukrainians at the hands of Stalin’s Soviet authorities.
Holodomor touches every Albertan of Ukrainian heritage in a deeply personal way. Since 2008, the fourth Saturday in November is proclaimed as Ukrainian Famine and Genocide (Holodomor) Memorial Day in our province. May the victims of Holodomor live forever in our collective memory, so their tragedy may never be repeated.
PLEASE SEND WARM CLOTHES WITH YOUR CHILD
Please send a change of clothes for your child in their backpack. A change of socks, pants and underwear should be in every child's back pack in the event that their clothes get wet during the day.
