Tēnā koutou katoa
Ngā mihi nui, kia koutou katoa - Warm greetings to you all.
It's been a fabulous start to Term 2, it is so nice to see all the students again and hear all about their holiday adventures. Our attendance rate has started well, and we are all very focussed on making the very most of learning time at school. All data and research on school attendance is very conclusive; attendance = achievement.
Nau mai haere mai to Jeremy Hantler who is joining our TPS teaching team, Jeremy will be with us on Wednesday afternoons to tutor our Kapa Haka rōpū with Whaea Kylie Rae.
Welcome to our newest learners in Room 15, it is wonderful to have you and your family join our TPS team.
The TPS Cross Country is on 17th May @ Memorial Park. Everyone will be striving to give their best performance. All athletes who compete will win points for their House and the top place holders (for each year and gender group) will earn additional points. We do ask that children please wear sneakers to school for practising. Whilst most of the running is on the grass, some is on footpaths and sealed areas and we will be walking to and from Memorial Park. Please note that children wear their House coloured tee shirt for the cross country day. We encourage you to join us and support your children. We ask that family dogs are not brought along to this school event. More detailed information will be sent home closer to the event which is usually finished by lunchtime.
TPS Covid Update:
- Three positive Covid cases at Tauranga Primary School for Term 2 (students and staff).
- None of the positive cases have attended school this term.
- Attendance Rate: 91% Monday, 93% Tuesday, 93% Wednesday
At Orange, face masks are no longer required at school. However public health advice is that masks continue to be strongly encouraged when indoors. We ask that visitors to the school, including parents and whānau, wear a mask whenever they are indoors at school. Children and staff can continue to wear masks if they choose too. We do have a supply of masks at the office if you forget to bring one on site.
We ask that your child (if they are Year 4-6) continues to bring a mask to school every day. There may be times when we’ll ask them to wear a mask – for example, when we are having an assembly in the hall.
If there are a high number of cases at school, we may ask that masks are worn in classrooms for a short time.
We have RAT tests available to distribute to our school community. If your child is sent home unwell we can provide a box of five tests for the family. If you would like a free RAT test box please enquire at the office.
On most Thursdays we have 14 CUSP (Collaborative University & School Partnership) student teachers working with us. They are in their first or second year of study (Bachelor of Teaching) from the University of Waikato. It is wonderful to have additional teachers on site, our learners are certainly benefitting from more support in class and the many fun activities that they lead at lunchtimes.
He waka eke noa
We are all in this together

Board of Trustees - election year
TPS Board of Trustees (BOT)
This year is a Board of Trustees election year with elections being held in September. Some of our current board will not be standing for election as their children will be leaving or have now left TPS. If becoming involved in the governance of your child(ren)'s school is of interest to you, please talk with me or Aaron Moores (board chair) Aaron.Moores@craigsip.com. We are happy to talk through what the role involves. Later in the year we will host a Meet and Greet where you can talk with current trustees, you are also welcome to attend a BOT meeting.
Some broad information can also be found here.

Come and find out about the Friends of the School group. We will share some of the activities we have done in the past, organising and running 'fun and fund-raising' activities like Pizza Fridays, Donut Fridays, the school discos and would would love to hear any ideas you might have. At last we can begin to plan some events for our school community.
All are welcome, it is a great way to meet other parents and also to get to know the senior leadership of TPS better.
