Chasing Shadows
Students learned about shadows on Groundhog Day earlier this month as part of a lights lesson in REACH Coordinator Christie Wylie’s class. To build upon prior knowledge from science explorations, students used flashlights to conduct shadow experiments on toy animals. Students shone the light from different angles to determine whether they could see the animal’s shadow.
While meteorologists have fun using Groundhog Day as a mythical way to predict the weather for the next six weeks, teachers enjoy using the day as part of lesson plans for science explorations.

Read-A-Thon Request
Does your family own a business (or have a connection with a business) that could volunteer to provide a fun and exciting prize for classes who read the most minutes during our March Read-a-Thon? We would be open to and appreciative of anything! Some ideas might include an ice cream truck, a local restaurant to provide a meal or dessert, a bounce house, a gift card, or a musical disc jockey. Please email Ms. Lenzini at llenzini@d103.org with your suggestions. Thank you for your consideration!
As an aside, please check your child’s take-home folder for an explanation on how to get them signed up for this school-wide event!
Making a Difference
Second-graders are learning how one person can make a difference. Collectively, this team of students decided to tackle the school's Lost and Found to see if they could find the owners of so many abandoned water bottles, hats, gloves, and other clothing. Claim your child's items from this Lost and Found folder and help second-graders find a solution to this growing Lost and Found problem.
CANCELED: Groovin' with our Grown-ups
Groovin' with our Grown-ups for second-graders at Sprague School has been canceled for next week.
