FRONTIER EAGLE NEWS
January 2022
A Note from the FMS Administrative Team
We hope that the time away from school and work afforded everyone the opportunity to rest and relax as we head into the final two weeks of the first semester. We know that the days leading into break were incredibly challenging and sad for our FMS community. The outpouring of support that was received on behalf of our families was indescribably humbling. As we head into the new year, please know that we are here to continue to support our students in any way possible. Please reach out to our counselors (Mrs. Deb Kerns, Ms. Amy Koeln, and Mr. Jeff Yin) and our administrative team, if we can be of assistance. Even in the most difficult of times, we are proud and honored to serve our wonderful FMS community!
Speaking of our counseling team, we want to let you know that Mrs. Deb Kerns, our seventh-grade counselor, will be returning to us on Monday, January 3, after an extended medical leave of absence. Mrs. Julie Marion, who has been filling in for Mrs. Kerns, will continue to be with us on both Monday and Tuesday to help ease the transition. Moving forward, all seventh-grade counseling questions, concerns, etc. can be directed to Mrs. Kerns.
We hope that the turn of the year brings new hope, as we have much to look forward to and celebrate as we move forward toward the second semester.
Sincerely,
Dr. Laura Rowe, Principal
Mr. Kevin Kuehl, 7th Grade Assistant Principal
Mr. Stan Johnson, 8th Grade Assistant Principal
Important Information Regarding Upcoming Dates
January 14 marks the end of the first semester. We will have an Early Release Day, during which students will be released at 12:20 PM.
We will also not be having school on Monday, January 17 in observance of Martin Luther King Day, or on Monday, January 18, which is a Professional Development Day for staff.
Classes will resume on January 19, 2022, with our normal school hours.
Raptor Security System Information
Part of keeping students and staff safe is knowing who is in our building at all times, so we are rolling out a system to allow us to do just that. Starting January 24, 2022, WSD visitors will check in to our buildings using Raptor, a new visitor management system designed to assist with building security.
What does that mean for you?
When you arrive in a WSD building as a visitor, you will be asked to scan your ID, take a photo and complete the management system’s check-in process.
Raptor will screen the information against sex offender databases and locally customized lists of banned or potentially threatening individuals, instantly alert school officials to a threatening presence, and maintain a searchable log of all visitors.
Once approved, you will get a customized visitor badge to wear while in the building.
Thank you for your support as we roll this out and enhance school safety protocols!
Parents or guardians who are only picking up a child for the day will not need to use the visitor management system.
